- Dragon Age Origins War Mage "Combat-Playthrough": TIME STAMPS/TACTICS PART 3
15:26:46 THE DEEP ROADS We will clear them out. Completely. Even the Aeducan Thaig, which is not part of the Paragon of her Kind quest. 15:26:52 AEDUCAN THAIG There is an Emissary a bit further. Use Mana Clash. The rest of the darkspawn are basically child's play. In this thaig there will be lot of Emissaries actually. They are the only challenging part. 15:27:31 MORRIGAN LEVEL 18 3 on Willpower. We pick Combat Tactics, and the Force Field spell. Now, she has an additional slot, which we will set up for Force Field when someone's health falls below 25%. We need this because without tactical pause, any Emissary can surprise us with Crushing Prison. If they put Curse of Mortality on top of that, then good night War Mage. This way we will have more than enough health after Morrigan gets us out of the Crushing Prison(with the Shockwave combo, which is Force Field on Crushing Prison), to Mana Clash the mage, and hide in a Force Field until Curse of Mortality wears off. 15:28:04 SEE? THEY ARE SNEAKY LIKE THAT! I went for a Mana Clash, yet the bugger locked me into a Crushing Prison. This time there was no Curse of Mortality, so it was no big deal. But, as I said, Morrigan will keep that tactic on for a reason. Anyway, after we get out Crushing Prison, let's blast the ugly with Mana Clash, then start cleaning the room. There is another Emissary on the left, with some additional darkspawn. There is also the first sack here, from the Asunder hidden quest. 15:29:40 YIKES! This is the most difficult part of this thaig. Two Emissaries. They both have Crushing Prison and Curse of Mortality at this level. The best tactics is to zoom out and just blast them with Mana Clash from afar. I however, confidently rush in with my prepared Mana Clash and start blasting. Surprise! If you do it fast enough, it always works. Plus Morrigan would get my butt out of the Crushing Prisons anyway. Only one got killed though from my Mana Clash. So, we focus on the other one now. Knock him down, Petrify him, or freeze him. Anything really that prevents him to use his nasty spells. After the darkspawn are killed, this thaig is basically done. The only things left are: 15:30:30 DEEPSTALERKS They are weak and pathetic. Yes, they can stun, and get nasty when you are at low level. However, they don't provide any challenge at this point. Just rush into them, use Mind Blast, then Cone of Cold, and Flame Blast. Works every time. Whoever is behind you will be taken down by the team. Don't worry about damage! You are a War Mage! You are though as nails now! Plus Morrigan can heal if you need it... Same tactic applies to every Deepstalker encounter. 15:34:36 CARIDIN'S CROSS Not too bad place. A couple of dangerous places, but it is a cakewalk compared to what will come after it. Anyway, we worry about that later. We are greeted by three Elite Mercenaries. Two warrior, one mage. These guys are not here if you work both Behlen and Harrowmont, in case you want to avoid them. They are not challenging however, just use Mana Clash on the mage, and whack the warriors after. 15:35:15 BIG, BIG ROOM WITH LOTS OF DARKSPAWNS Fire trap in the middle(Sten will trigger it, and even Alistair gets a taste of it) and an Emissary at the end. I go after the Emissary first, with my Mana Clash, after we get rid of the "welcoming committee" with fire and ice. He resists it though, so we are going to Fist him, Cone him and... Alistair will take over. Once you kill the darkspawn here, and approach the bridge, five archer genlock will spawn behind you. Or right in front of you, if we are me. On the bridge, there are lots of Leghold traps. Make sure you don't step in them. The other side will have around six genlocks and an Elite Ogre. The Ogre should be Petrified, and let your team take it down. Mop up the genlock berserkers after it is dead. If you approach the exit, multiple Shrieks will attack you from Stealth. You can flush them out with Mind Blast and freeze them. However, our warriors deal so much damage now, it is hard not to just let them have some fun with the enemies. I think I'm becoming lazy. 15:40:01 KILL THE GENLOCK! Once we leave the big room and step on some proper dwarven roads, we get rid of that charging Bronto, and the genlocks. After this we will have to quickly run to the tunnel where a few Genlock Runners are going to sprint away from us. To make things easier, we need to kill them before they get away. They would alert the Emissary inside, and that is something we don't want. We want to surprise him. If they are dead, we head inside, which would make the Emissary start run outside. This will let use use Mana Clash on him without any problem. His little friends will be taken down by our team. 15:40:59 ALISTAIR LEVEL 18 Strength, Strength, Strength. We pick Survival and the fantastic Deathblow. Now, Alistair will be able to gain back stamina with each kill. For a dual weapon warrior, this is a very powerful tool. 15:41:13 OH, LOOK! AN OGRE BOSS! Let's take him down in seconds! We stay where we are as he is about to throw a boulder at us. We only move when he puts it at his shoulder. Cast a Petrify to paralyze him and move forward. Nice! Now the Ogre managed to hit his own Shrieks and can't move. Focus on the Shrieks first. Cone of Cold, Flame Blast. Sten got Grabbed, so let's get him out of there! Scratch that, Morrigan already handles that, and Alistair started to rip him apart. Finish off the Shrieks, and when we turn back, we witness the Ogre's death. We could leave the place after this, but we still have some darkspawn to kill, plus another black vial. 15:42:03 ANOTHER GROUP This pack has one Elite Emissary and one Elite Bronto. After those two are don, I mostly just let my team do the work, and heal them if necessary. After this, we are going to slaughter some Deepstalkers with the usual Deepstalker-killing tactics. and pick up the second bag for the Asunder quest. Then I was scouring the area for more enemies who I might left out, and managed to step in my first leghold trap. Ouch! That is what happens when you play while your brain is tired. Anyway, there is another group of enemies here, but I figured I will come back for them when I loot with Leliana. 15:45:57 OUR LAST BLACK VIAL Since I forgot the last one in the tower, this is the last Revenant we will fight. The last one was no challenge anymore, and neither this one. 15:46:47 ORTHAN THAIG Nasty, nasty place. If we would have come here sooner, It would have been a major challenge. Spiders are everywhere! Even a spider boss at the end! They are not that dangerous anymore, but at low level they could absolutely destroy us with their Webs. Also, lots of darkspawn. Luckily, they are fighting with the spiders, so that lets us ambush them on a few places. 15:47:30 DARKSPAWN VS SPIDERS The spider would win. Yeah, their Web is to strong, so they would end up killing the darkspawn. Anyway, let's not let that happen. We want all the experience we can get. So let's smack the Ogre surrounded by spiders with a Fire Ball. Let's freeze the Ogre, and let our team start slaughtering everyone. Another Fire Ball on the next group. Then freeze, then fire and teamwork. When they are dead, we touch the tomb on the right side of the room. 15:49:46 GHOSTS AND GOLEMS Ghosts are probably my least favorite enemies in the game, along with Spiders. They are generally annoying. They are pretty tough compared to other normal units, and they don't give loot when they die. They have a Golem with them. If you go to the chest with the web, a group of spiders will spawn. This is true to almost every place in this thaig that has webs. Sorry Morrigan, I was aiming for the spider. 15:51:17 WEBS Yup, this is the best way to approach them. Just let your companion wonder into them. That way you can be ready for the spawning spiders with some ice and fire. Sorry, Alistair for the extra heat. 15:52:38 ANOTHER MYSTICAL SITE OF POWER And this is the place where the Asunder quest will end. We will come back here once we got the last sack with Leliana. 15:52:40 MORE GOLEMS, MORE GHOSTS Need I say more? This is the last time we see them in this thaig. 15:53:46 RECORDS FOR ORTA Then we talk to Ruck, get rid of the spiders and trade with him. He is the one who sells infinite Deep Mushrooms. These are invaluable for a warrior and a rogue, because Deep Mushroom is the main ingredient for Swift Salve. We also update the Mother's Hope quest, and get the sword piece for the Admirable Topsider quest. 15:57:37 UGLY THINGS! They are fleeing from you... for now. After the bridge, make sure you take out the Emissary with Mana Clash. The fight can get very ugly if let him cast spells. There is another Emissary who is further away. So far in fact that if you don't go close, you can ignore him. Lots of spiders will spawn here, and they don't fight the Emissary, they only want to kill you. They have Web and Overwhelm, so watch out! 15:59:41 CORRUPTED SPIDER BOSS Probably the most annoying boss fight in the game. A nightmare with a mage at low level. At this point, it is not that hard, but still very annoying. The Spider Queen will keep webbing the entire team, and disappears when she takes too much damage. She also summons lots of additional spiders. The best tactics is to keep paralyzing her. That way she can't use her ability to disappear, and can be killed pretty fast. After she is gone, let's loot her and get the Bloodline axe and the Silkweave Gloves(another elemental gloves, this one gives 20% nature damage bonus), and the Smith's Heart from the Cocoon. Let's read the Journal, and the Dead Trenches await! 16:02:39 THE DEAD TRENCHES As we start moving forward, we see a group of dwarves with black armor fighting against the charging darkspawn. Help them out by Fire Balling the entire group. Don't worry, the Legion of the Dead are tough, they will survive it. With our team, we will start taking down the uglies from the bridge as well. This is actually a great place to throwing Fire Ball around. Lots of spaces between you and the enemy groups, so don't be shy about playing with fire! Once the aggro drops we speak to Kardol. He tells us that what we are doing is stupid, and that the dwarven nobles are also stupid. Braka is dead and there is no one alive after their outpost. What a pessimist! 16:09:11 IN FRONT OF THE GATES Two group of archers - five on each side. Let's pick a side and smack them with Fire Ball. An Elite Ogre is also present, and a few Shrieks will appear out of Stealth as we approach. The Ogre gets Petrified, and frozen, then we go after the other group of archers. As always, our team is more than capable of handling things after this. We talk to Kardol again, who still thinks we are stupid, but compliments our skills. 16:10:21 RUNNERS AGAIN... Remember those Genlock Runners, who were about to alert the Emissary back at Caridin's Cross Yeah, these archers will do the same if you approach them. So let's not. Fire Ball the group, let the team handle the melee guys, wait for Fire Ball to recharge and bomb them again. Problem solved. Make sure that you pause your team, otherwise they advance and ruin your surprise. 16:10:46 LEVEL 19 Boost Magic, and pick up Arcane Mastery for the Spellpower boost. Re-activate your sustainable skills so they get the bonus. 16:11:12 THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GATE Since we killed the archers, the Emissary can be surprised with a Mana Clash. Otherwise he would be waiting for us with a Crushing Prison. One Bronto and a couple of other genlocks are all that is left here. As with most fights, once you kill the Emissary, things will become much easier. When they fall, let's explore the left side first. Once we get rid of the two Shrieks and the genlocks, loot the room. The boots of the Legion of the Dead armor set will be here in a sarcophagus. 16:12:32 STEL LEVEL 18 Boost Strength, pick Improved Combat Tactics, and Constraint. 16:12:53 AND BEHIND THE NEXT DOOR IS... An Emissary. With spiders! Mana Clash him, fast. Or get locked into a Crushing Prison like I was, because I could not target the guy fast enough without pause. It happens. This is why we have Morrigan, right? She gets us out of jail, and we heal up. The Emissary has been kept busy by Sten at this point, who ends up finishing him off, but not before we try our best to take revenge with a Mana Clash. After the room is clear, loot it. 16:13:35 GENLOCKS AND TRAPS This room has a few genlocks, and a few traps. It is best to just leave the team behind and get rid of them with Fire Balls. This way, they won't trigger the traps and we can get the xp for them when we disarm them with Leliana. This room also has the Gloves of the Legion. After we loot it, summon the team. Sten gets into my face accidentaly as I was looting a fractired stone. I have no wish at this point Kadan. 16:14:55 CAREFUL HERE! This is one of those dangerous places, that should not be approached without caution. There is an Emissary here with spiders. The Emissary casts Crushing Prison upon seeing you, and the spiders spam Web. Let's not rush ahead. Try to peak around the corner and Mana Clash the little bastard. Done! I feel safer already! We can charge in after that with Cone of Cold. If we stand our ground, the spiders will mob up on use, which si good because we can use Mind Blast which makes them vulnerable to out flames and our team's melee. The Ancient Darkspawn boss also summons here if you are doing the Admirable Topsider quest. A two-handed warrior. Not exactly a challenge, especially on his own. We have the last piece from him, so later we re0vist the grave in Ortan Thaig and complete the quest. 16:16:15 THE NEXT ROOM Nothing special here, other than this wired trap that you can't disarm and it always respawns itself. As far as I know, it does nothing other then being loud. 16:16:53 THE FORGEMASTER This fight is optional, you can just start going left and the group of darkspwan will never notice you. If you want to kill the Forgemaster however: Try to approach with caution. The Forgemaster boss can deal some pretty good damage, so don't rush in. He has Scattershot, Pinning Shot and Arrow of Slaying. He also has a big hammer, which he will use if you get into melee range. Lure some of the enemies out and kill them before the Forgemaster notices you. After that, we smack the boss with a Fire Ball. That will knock him down. Or not... In my case he resisted it. It happens. So I froze him, along with Alistair. Sorry, friend! The other darkspwans should be dealt with first, while you paralyze the boss. Unlucky me, the boss resisted everything I threw at him. Finally, I got him with a Petrify so at the end, he fell pretty fast. 16:18:49 SHRIEKS ON THE BRIDGE Eight Shrieks. Four in front of you, four behind you. Watch for Morrigan, since she usually stays behind. She can get mobbed easily. Cone of Cold and Flame Blast works well on the group in front of you. You can also put a Repulsion Glyph on the floor so they would be pushed back, as you turn back to check on Morrigan. Morrigan naturally will start with a Mind Blast, so is gonna be safe until you check on her. You warriors will do what they do best. While you handle crowd control, they will dish out the damage. 16:19:29 BIG HALL, LOTS OF SKELEOTONS This hall has one Emissary, and at least ten skeletons. The skeletons are nor difficult, but they can be annoying, since they keep using Shield Bash and Shield Pummel. The Emissary, gets Mana Clash, that way the fight won't become ugly. This hall holds the Armor of the Legion. The last piece of the Legion of the Dead armor set. The helmet, although it fits the set, will not count towards the set bonus. 16:22:51 AFTER HESPITH After talking to Hespith, we face two Ogres. Both Elites, but they are no longer a challenge for the party. Paralysing spells always work well on Ogres. Once they are dead, we go to the little room ahead, and loot the Legionnaire Altar. We get the key, and the Helmet of the Legion. After we get rid of the spirits, we place the armor on Sten, make sure he touches the Legion of the Dead Relic, and we defeat the Shade. The thing is very easy. After the fight, we give Sten back his equipment. Once the door is open, we loot the sarcophagus and get the Legion of the Dead insignia. Now we can go back to the shaper and finish the Dead Caste quest. 16:25:14 BROODMOTHER Probably the most disgusting and disturbing thing in Dragon Age. A mountain of flesh and corruption. Her Screams can knock you down, stun you, disorient you, and summon additional drakspawn. She also has two types of Grab ability. One shakes the hell out of you, the other spits vomit in your face. The former is more dangerous. Decent nature resistance can be very useful here, because once her health goes down to 25%, she will release a Rotting Gas, which will cause very nasty nature damage on the whole party. So let's kill this thing! First, we throw a Fire Ball. The Broodmother has 75% nature resistance, but she is weak to fire. Flaming Weapons are very handy on the team. We approach, but we won't go too close. Let the warrios do that. Use Cone of Cold, Petrify and Glyph of Paralysis so your warrior can deal as much damage as possible, before she summons her darkspawn babies. We managed to take down half of her health, practically undisturbed, which is great, but things will get uglier from here. She summons her babies, and suddenly we are swarmed by darkspawn. Our focus must be on Morrigan if we want to keep her alive. After we direct the warriors to keep attacking the Broodmother, we place a Glyph of Repulsion around her to keep her safe. If this does not work, you might have to Force Field her. The Broodmother's non stop Screams are not helping. She keeps stunning the party and summons even more darkspawn. This time there are Shrieks in the pack. Alistair however, because he is suck an awesome damager, already struck the final blow on the big tenticle monster. Morrigan got a bit too much heat, so she goes into a Force Field, and we clear out the rest of the darkspawn. In my opinion, the key to win this battle without anyone falling, is to focus the warriors' attentions on Broodmother, and to keep an eye on the weakest link. 16:28:03 MORRIGAN LEVEL 19 3 Willpower and we get Glyph of Warding. Our aim is for her to have Glyph of Repulsion too. After we level her up, we are going to have a quick trip back to Orzammar. We sell our loot, put Oghren in the party and level him up. We also change his equipment and his tactics. Oghren is mandatory for the end of this quest, so we have to turn him into something decent. The Anvil of the Void is a dangerous place. We boost his Strength, and make sure he uses War Cry upgraded with Superiority to knock down everyone who attack him in melee range. The rest of his tactics are very similar to Sten's. Also, we buy the Tome of Mortal Vessel from Legnar, and we place the one point it gives us on Magic. 16:31:44 THE ANVIL OF THE VOID Branka is here. And a lot of darkspawn as well. And traps. And golems. This is going to be interesting. 16:35:00 AN OCEAN OF DARKSPAWN First, we need to get through them to reach Caridin's traps. The first wave is not that impressive. Around ten enemies, with one Elite dual weapon genlock. Ten might sounds like a lot, but Oghren's War Cry makes sure we won't get mobbed, even if we don't use crowd control spells. From the second wave, the most dangerous enemy is obviously the Emissary. Once we Mana Clash him, the hard part is over. Another roughly ten normal level drakspawn is ready to be sloughtered. The third wave comes with an Elite Ogre. Nothing we haven't crushed before. Petrify, and let the warriors butcher the thing. Mop up the rest. Advancing towards the traps, there will be a few more darkspawn. 16:38:39 THE FIRST TRAP - GOLEM ROOM The room is filled with gas, and as you enter the golems will wake up one by one. Best is to just order your party to wait, and quickly turn off each valve to shut the gas down completely. When the golem charges at your party, you can knock it down with Stonefist. Now we can face the golems. They are not much of a threat, as long as you don't get close when they are waking up. When they wake up, they use Quake, which deals a lot of damage and stuns the party. 16:40:01 THE SECOND TRAP - GOLEM HALLWAY There are two traps ahead of you. A rogue can detect them, but if they get disarmed, the golems still come to life. You face four golems in this room. Two at a time. They have more health, and they don't waste their Quake skill when they wake up. The main thing you should focus on is knocking them down or paralyzing them. This way they obviously can't deal damage. Stonefist and Glyph of Repulsion is great. Petrify does not work on them, because they are made of stone, but Glyph of Paralysis and Cone of Cold does. 16:41:50 THE THIRD TRAP - SPIRIT APPARATUS This blasted thing! The fight is bad enough, but the worse thing is, this fight crashes my game more often than anything else. Anyway, taking down the Apparatus at this point is actually not that difficult. You need to kill one Elite ghost at a time, and then activate the anvil that starts gloving. This will damage the construction. Otherwise nothing else can harm it. It is best to focus on one or two anvil at a time, because each time the heads on the Apparatus take damage, they summon a different spirit and use a different attack. As far as I can tell, the initial "Lightning Eyes" do nothing. The blue "Healing Eyes" heal the spirits. The "Bloody Eyes" will deal spirit damage on the party. So it is obvious that we don't want to face four "Bloody" eyes at a time. So once a head reaches "Bloody Eyes" status, we will focus on getting rid of that one, before we attack the others. This will make sure that we will not be bombarded with spirit damage towards the end of the battle, which can be very dangerous. I like to group select my team here, and direct them to a single spirit, so we can get rid of each one quickly with our combined damage. Once the blasted thing is dead, you get no loot nor experience. Awesome! 16:47:05 CARIDIN We are going to beat the old tin can, because it is considered the "harder" fight. We won't keep the Anvil though. We will make sure it gets destroyed as Branka realizes what she has done. Caridin is a boss, and he is pretty tough. He has all the usual golem skills, Slam, Quake, and Hurl, but he also has some nasty lightning spells. He also has four stone golems with him. Two has Normal, and two has Elite rank. However, we also have two golems with us thanks to Branka. Best is to just keep his attention on us, until Alistair and Oghren gets rid of the other golems. If you fight all of them at once, someone is bound to be knocked out. So, start with Stonefist on him, then give him some Cone of Cold. If a Normal golem gets caught in the freeze, that is a great opportunity for shattering them! Oghren or Alistair can do that with a critical hit. One down! Oghren's War Cry is powerful enough to knock some of the golems down, which is why we pick that for him. Let's direct our party to engage with the other golems while we keep Caridin busy. Despite being a golem, Petrify works on Caridin quite well. Steel can be turned into stone! Keep repeating Cone of Cold, Glyph of Paralysis, Stonefist and Petrify until your team defeats the others. Once they arrive to help you, the fight is pretty much over. Time to let Branka destroy the Anvil, get the Golem Registry(plus the gift for Zevran from the chest), and we can finally go back to spank Behlen. 16:57:04 THE KING OF ORZAMMAR Is going to be Harrowmont. I never pick Behlen, unless I'm a Dwarf Commoner. I just can't stand that arrogant little scheming turd! So let's whoop his butt and put that crown where it belongs. Which is Harrowmont's head! 17:00:49 ALISTAIR LEVEL 19 Everything goes on Strength. We pick up Resilience for him. Outside, we also convince Kardol to join us agains the Blight on the surface. This would switch some of the dwarven soldier to Leion of the Dead Avengers during the final battle, and Kardol would also fight the Archdemon. We also visit the Shaper, to give the documents to Orta, give the Registry to Czibor, and we also add the Dead Cast Insignia to the Memories. In the commons, we also bring the bad news to Filda, thus completing the Mother's Hope quest. Since I can't stand Behlen, I decided to kill his supporters as well: Piotin and his cronies, along with Myaja and Lucjan, will bite the dust. 17:08:55 OGHREN'S QUEST Yeah, we make sure he gets Felsi. We also unlock the Berserker specialization here(10/12). 17:11:25 LOOTING THE DEEP ROADS WITH LELIANA You can skip it here: 17:23:23 First I quickly level up Wynne and Leliana, then we run faster than the wind with double Haste! Note that at the Anvil of the Void, I was just checking if there is a corpse there that I haven't looted(like the Revenant at Caridin's Cross). There is no locked chest in this location. 17:15:19 THE THIRD SACK This is what we left out the last time we were here. Let's kill those Deepstalkers and get that sack to complete the Asunder quest. 17:18:15 DRIFTER'S CHACHE QUEST COMPLETE 17:18:52 ADMIRABLE TOPSIDER QUEST COMPLETE 17:19:20 ASUNDER QUEST COMPLETE I let the demon go. This way the money is guaranteed. If you fight the Pride Demon, you only have a small chance of getting it from its corpse. 17:21:23 STOP! Yep, I did not forget about this place. It is extremely dangerous to enter this side of the cave if you are unprepared. Two Emissaries, and three spiders. The mages have Crushing Prison, Curse of Mortality. The spiders have Web and Overwhelm. Pretty grimm. The spiders will aggro you first, so come where with your Mana Clash already prepared. Hopefully none of the Emissaries will resist it. Once they are down, get rid of the spiders. 17:23:46 LOST TO THE MEMORIES QUEST COMPLETE We definitely take the gold. 17:25:49 LELIANA GETS A NUG Yeah, sure I get one for her. It's only five silver. 17:28:39 OGHREN'S QUEST Yupp, he still got it. 17:32:42 WE HAVE ANDRUIL'S BLESSING 17:33:16 EIGHTEENTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Rebel dwarves. Even with Leliana instead of Sten, they are a joke. So let them die for Behlen. 17:35:03 WE BUY AND USE TWO TOMES: A MORTAL VESSEL AND A SKILL AND SOUNDRY Attribute goes on Magic, the skill goes on Improved Herbalism. 17:35:30 BACK AT CAMP, BOOSTING APPROVALS AND UNLOCKING WYNNE'S QUEST Wynne sure talks a lot... 17:41:11 NINETEENTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Wynne's special encounter. We get rid of the darkspwan and talk to her. After this, we talk to her in the camp, and unlock her quest. We also talk to Shale, boost her approval and unlock her quest as well. We use the Persuasion option, because otherwise we would lose a lot of approval since Caridin is dead. The next question has one answer which seems to be glitched, because we destroyed the Anvil, yet is says that "it is in the hands of the dwarves". This happens if you kill Caridin. In the game's "mind" if Caridin is dead, you must have kept the Anvil. So I just picked that one, even though there is no Anvil anymore. 18:04:53 TWENTIETH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Wynne's special ability encounter. Focus on the Omega. His Fire Ball, which is next to impossible to dodge without tactical pause, can put you into a very disadvantageous position. He also has less mana than health, so Mana Clash will not kill him instantly. Once he is gone however, the encounter is basically over. 18:07:27 LEVEL 20 As usual, 3 Magic. Honestly, the build is done at this point, so we are just picking extra abilities. Spell Wisp is a sweet little "trinket" so let's get that. 18:08:30 ANEIRIRN We finish Wynne's quest. You don't have to talk to the dalish in the camp for him to appear. You can go directly into the forest once you have the quest. We get back to camp, and get zero approval from Wynne. Nice. Her approval gain is bugged, so you get nothing other than the amulet and some xp. 18:14:24 SHALE'S QUEST After we level her up and set set up her tactics, we boost her approval with some gems we buy in Orzammar. Now off to either Caridin's Cross or Ortan Thaig so she can see something familiar. 18:15:00 CADASH THAIG The thaig is not that dangerous if you know what to do. Watch for the Emissaries, and use Mana Clash. Shrieks can do a lot of damage, so use Mind Blast and Shale as a tank. When she gets into trouble, Force Field her. The Deepstalkers and the traps are just minor annoyances. The final fight with the Ogre is pretty simple, even if it can grab you. Morrigan, Alistair and even Shale can get you out of it. Paralyzing works well, just like we did before. After you kill it, get rid of the Shrieks who spawn around him and just let the game play the cutscene. Loot the chest and the crystals and we are out of here! Sorry Alistair for the burn... 18:25:54 MORRIGAN LEVEL 20 1 Magic, 2 Willpower. We pick up Stonefist for her. She will defend Alistair with it from now. We go back to camp, accept Shale's apology and boost her approval all the way up to 100. 18:31:57 STEN LEVEL 19 3 points on Strength. We pick up Two-Handed Sweep. This will be a very important tool for him later on. 18:32:41 THE LANDSMEET We are here in Denerim with Eamon. Loghain is here. Howe is here. The queen is here. Everyone is here! 18:37:48 ERLINA After we loot everything in Eamon's Estate, we talk to the elven maid. The queen is kidnapped and we need to rescue her. Yup, does not sound fishy at all. 18:40:16 WE FINISH LELIANA'S QUEST Catfight. Marjolaine is paranoid so she wants to get rid of Lelina. Well, we have a cure for her paranoia. As we enter there are two guards who provide no challenge. During the dialogue, we can either let Marjolaine go or engage in a fight after. We will fight. The room we are in has two smaller rooms next it. Both have a trap at the entrance(Leliana is with us so she will see them). Each one holds one mage qunari and one warrior. Marjolaine is a boss, and she hits hard, even though she is unarmed. Without tactical pause we can only take down one mage with Mana Clash, so let's knock down the other one with Stone Fist and feed him an Arcane Bolt. Done! Marjolaine has a very high chance of using her Captivating Song ability, which is her downfall. The continuous stun is annoying, but it completely disables her fighting skills, and she is basically paralyzed. After we kill the two melee guards, she just turns into a punching bag, waiting to be beaten to death. Once she is done, let's loot the room and return to camp to talk to her. We also talk to Oghren so we can taste his brew. We take off one dagger from Leliana and give two to Zevran, because we are about to test his loyalty. We level him up and set up his tactics in Denerim. 18:57:23 THE CROWS - ZEVRAN'S LOYALTY TEST Since we have his approval high enough, he will stay with us. The crows are dangerous though. They have very fast attacks, Coup de Grace(if you are stunned they can backstab you), Mark of Death and a few skills to stun you and the party(Dirty Fighting, Scattershot). There are also traps at the bottom of the stairs, so don't wonder into them. Watch out for Morrian, she can be overwhelmed pretty easily. The fight pretty much boils down to how you handle the initial onslaught. So, Cone of Cold on the Assassins who try to flank the team, put a Repulsion Glyph around Morrigan, Fire Ball the archers behind you, and heal the team when they need it. They are rogues, so they can't take that much damage. After the ambushers are defeated, tell Zevran to stay, and let's get moving. 19:00:08 BACK IN THE PEARL We are gonna start talking to the Hooded Carriers from the Irregular's quest, and since we have Zevran in the party, we will pick up the Duelist specialization from Isabela(11/12). I'm a mage. Obviously I suck at the card game, because I have low Dexterity and Cunning. Zevran on the other hand can guarantee a victory for us. Same with Leliana. 19:07:38 LOOTING DENERIM WITH LELIANA Skip it here: 19:08:54 19:09:12 UNLOCKING THE ASSASSIN SPECIALIZATION WITH ZEVRAN(12/12) That is it! We have all the specializations unlocked! Then we chat a bit more with Zevran, and he swears that he will stick to us until the end. 19:19:11 RESCUE THE QUEEN Okay, time to rescue the queen! After you speak to Erlina, pause your team and stay close to the wall. This way the guard will not notice you from above. Once you at the back, summon your party. Put on the uniforms, and get inside while the elf draws the guards away. 19:21:32 OKAY, WE ARE INSIDE Nothing to be afraid of yet. Just use the uniform to get to Anora. 19:24:24 DOOR ON THE LEFT Do not open that door. It will prompt a cutscene and your cover will be blown. Kinda. We will open it later. There is something there that we need. As we reach the bedroom, we pick up the Grey Warden Documents from the box, and we meet Riordan. 19:26:48 TIME TO FIGHT Busted! We Mind Blast the guards, then throw a Fire Ball at the archers behind the wall. Their Scattershot is very annoying. At this point, Alistair and Sten can handle most of the fights here in the basement, but Cone of Cold and Flame Blast can help them getting things done faster. You just watch for Morrigan. 19:28:44 THE FIRE TRAP It's right ahead. Stop the team and trigger it, then run back a bit. This way you don't get blasted with fire during the fight. Mana Clash the mage inside(for some reason he did not aggro us at all), then Mind Blast and freeze the crowd to expose them to your warrior. 19:29:35 TORTURED NOBLE Bann Sighard's son is getting tickled. Get rid of the tortures and talk to him. Later you can ask for a pretty big sum of money from his father. 19:31:23 JAIL Kill the guards, and let Soris and Rexel free. 19:33:40 HOWE Time to wipe the smugness off of his face. His death is always satisfying. He has two mages three guards with him. He is an Assassin Boss. He uses Mark of Death and a lot of dual weapon talents. He also deals pretty good damage. My Morrigan almost went down in just a few seconds as I used Mana Clash on the mages. Sheesh! Things move a bit faster with no pause. Howe puts a Mark of Death on her, so we put her into a Force Field. Howe loves to use Stealth, but by this time his mages are dead and his two guards are dealt with by Alistair and Sten. Time to whack the jealous little snake! His health is not that high, and our warriors are more than capable of putting him down without our help. Get his key and let's go! 19:35:16 VAUGHN How could I resist? I did free him tough, so I'm no liar! Since we convinced him to give us his key, we will take his money later. The cage next to him has a Templar. We bring his amulet to Alfastana who stays in the tavern. 19:38:38 HOWE'S TREASURE We use his key to take everything from his vault. Then we open the door to Vaughn's Chest. We are gonna be busted by the guard, but who cares at this point? 19:39:25 NOW THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT We need to set up the tactics for the fight with Cauthrien. That's right, we won't back down! Since this is pretty much the toughest fight in the game, we will need to play smart. I actually build my character around this fight when I create a build. If it can take this fight without pause, the build is good. If it can't, then it is not good. With a good build, doing this solo is actually easier then with a team. However, we will prevail! Morrigan: First off, we make sure Morrigan puts Sten into a Force Field when his health is at 75%! Why, because he is going to be our main tank. He can't tank the amount of damage will go his way though(especially not without healing potions), so we need Morrigan to make him invulnerable. Second, we will make sure she casts Horror anyone who attacks her in melee. This is important because this far she was using Horror on anyone who was Elite or higher. Cauthrien and the mage will be the only enemies who would fit that criteria, and we don't want her to get the attention of Cauthrien. So she only casts Horror if she is attacked by melee. Alistair: Stays the same. He is our wrecking ball, and he is doing fine. Sten: As I said, we need him to tank. We need the enemies to focus on him, and him alone. He will use Taunt, get the attention of the enemies, takes damage and gets locked into a Force Field. We also set him up in a way that if he is attacked by melee, he uses his Two-Handed Sweep talent to knock everyone back. We need this, incase our or Morrigan's Force Field is on cooldown. He has more than enough Strength to knock back even Cauthrien if they attempt to melee him. 19:40:58 CAUTHRIEN Yup, we are here. Let's see how our tactics will work! Without pause, this fight is about timing. I killed Cauthrien at least a hundred times, so trust me, I know. Put your mouse over Cauthrien's... uhm... bosom. Yep, that is where our Fire Ball is, and we need to get to it very fast, so during the cutscene we already position our mouse above it. As soon as the cutscene is over, we let everyone clear out so we have a clear sight. As I said, you need to be fast, aim fast. Otherwise Cauthrien or one of her guard can run into your Fire Ball. That is not good. So quickly target the archers on the left side of the room! That will be our focus. Once they are smacked with Fire Ball, they will be knocked down, so they can't use their volley of Scattershot against us. Then we quickly turn and run into the right side crowd. They manage to stun us, but never mind that. Mind Blast the group! At this point Alistair's health got a bit low, because Cautrhien hits like a truck and did a Sunder Arms on him. Still, he is alive and well, and the girls is focusing on Sten now, because he just Taunted the entire room. He also swept them away from him, giving Morrigna time to put him into a Force Filed. This far, thigs are going our way! As we rush towards the left side to use Cone of Cold on the archers, we keep an eye on our party's health. If we see a big drop, we would instantly Group Heal or Force Field them. The archers, except one, are frozen solid, so that is good. Now, we blast the mage with Mana Clash, but he resists it. That is not good. Ugh! Still we hit him with Stonefist so at least he is knocked on his butt. Time to smack the left side with another Fire Ball! Hopefully that would finish them off. I also place a Life Ward on Sten, in case he needs it. He Taunts, and knocked everyone away from him again. That's it bog boy! The archers however, are still won't quit on the left side, so we use Cone of Cold and Flame Blast to finally put them down. At this point, I heal, even though it was not warranted, but things move a bit fast so, mistakes happen. And the mage puts on a freaking Anti-Magic Ward! God, just die already! I place Sten into a Force Field, so I don't have to focus on his health while I take down the mage. I move closer, and I blast the two guards around the mage with Cone of Cold, then Flame Blast. Flame Blast also gets the mage. I do another unwarranted heal, I guess that mage just messing with my mind! The tanking tactics actually works perfectly, my team needs no heal at all! Everyone is focusing on invulnerable Sten, and Alistair keep carving down Cauthrien's health. I cast Stonefist on the mage so he can be knocked out, but he gets up, so I Petrify his stubborn butt! Sten is out of the Force Field, and my spell is on cooldown, so I place a Glyph of Repulsion spell around him. That will push Cauthrien away until I get my Force Field back! I put another Lifeward around Sten, and finally I kill that blasted mage! At this point Alistair almost took down 90% of Cauthrien's health, so we focus on her with all our might! I knock her down with Stonefist, and wait until the Repulsion spell expires around Sten, we don't want to create a Paralysis Explosion there, and then I cast Glyph of Paralysis on her. It won't hold her long, but Sten is already in a Force Field, so we are good. We use everything to get the health of the Elite Boss down. Winter's Grasp, Bloody Grasp, Arcane Bolt. If she is down, the fight is ours. Alistair finally perform the long awaited execution animation on her! We did it! We mop up the rest of the room, which is basically a few Normal guards. 19:43:53 THE TAVERN We talk to Sighard, and Alfastanna. We persuade Sighard to give us 50 gold. Nice! 19:44:45 ALISTAIR LEVEL 20 3 Strength. We pick up Constraint for him. 19:47:24 ANORA AND EAMON We talk to them and we decide what will be the next step. We also speak with Riordan and ask him about the vault. 19:51:42 LOOTING WITH LELIANA We loot the vault and the tavern. This won't take long. We also turn in the Missing in Action quest to the Chanter's Board. 19:53:52 CHANGING TACTICS AND TALKING TO ANORA We change our team's tactics back and quickly talk to Anora about who will rule Ferelden. I went with the marriage option. Alistair and Anora will marry and rule together. Now we have all the available support at the Landsmeet(except Vaughn, but he can rot in hell). Take that, Loghain! 20:00:40 THE NICEST PART OF TOWN It's the Alienage. It's ugly and it smells bad. Still, we have a job to do, so let's get to it. First, we talk to the two people in front of the gate, who are both connected to two separate Irregular's quest. Scraping the Barrel and Grease the Wheels. These are the last two people who we need to talk to, to turn both quest in. Once we are done, let's head into the Alienage. After we save the guy from the thugs, we talk to Soris, and give some coins to the beggar, we mark the last Mystical Site of Power for the Guild. Then we go and talk to Shianni. 20:04:39 WE ARE GOING THROUGH Mind Blast first, then Mana Clash the mages. I placed Morrigan into a Force Field, because those Tevinter Guards can do a lot of damage with their Shield Pummel. Better safe than sorry. We get the key from one of the mages, and we go into the house. After we get rid of the Supervisor, we loot his Imperial Edge. This is a great sword for Alistair, especially, since there is another here not far in a box! These two Silverite beauties will be Alistair's new weapons. The deal more damage than what he has on now, and they look badass on his back. We take the key from the table, and proceed to the Run-Down Apartments. 20:06:35 RUN-DOWN APARTMENTS We look around, talking to to scared elf, but he will not have any useful info. The Sextant for the Fazzil's Request quest is here in one of the rooms. There is a locked room towards the door that leads outside, but only a rogue can open it, so we will come back for it with Leliana. Some gold and a few enemies are inside. 20:09:00 OUTSIDE OF THE APARTMENTS A little fight, not much to worry about. The real fight is behind the door ahead. 20:09:52 DEVERA Just like Cauthrien, a very tough and very avoidable fight. With our Coercion skill we could Intimidate Devera to back off from the fight, or with Persuasion we could convince her to bring us right before Caladrius, her boss. Well, we will do none of that. We will fight and she will die. Once the cutscene ends, just like with Cauthrien, the soldiers in the back will immediately start aiming at us with their Scattershot. That is not good. The melee guys are also gonna charge at us and possibly stun us with their Shield Pummel. That is also not good. So first, we start with a Mind Blast. This will give us time to bomb the archers with a Fire Ball. The fastest way to throw the ball, is to target the archer in the middle of the other room. Still, there is a huge chance that we will be stunned by a Scattershot at this point. We aim again, and we throw that ball! Good, the archers are knocked down and they are burning. Now we have time to re-position. We can freeze a group of soldiers by running to the right side of the room. Unfortunately for me, they left when Alistair started slashing Devera, so only Devera got the freeze. Well, at least she is dead. She is not that dangerous, but it is best to take her down fast. Our team will need heal, so Alistair gets Lifeward, and Sten gets Heal. There are traps in the middle of the doorway, so don't try to rush in. Approach from the side, and disable the archers from mid range with Cone of Cold. At this point we notice that Morrigan has been left alone with a Tevinter Warrior, so we help her out with some heal, and our Bloody Grasp takes the guy down. Then we focus back on the archers again with Flame Blast. Alistair also arrives and finishes the archers off. We quickly loot the room, and get our second Imperial Edge, from the chest in the other room. Then we make some space for our loot, because we are loaded again. This is where I give Alistair Duncan's shield, and I switch his swords to the double Imperial's Edge. 20:15:20 CALADRIUS A blood mage, and a boss. He is also very polite. Still we will take him down. This is where Devera would have brought you, if you convince her that you want to talk to the boss. Yup, all of the previous fights would have been avoided. So how do we take him down? Well, I think you know it already. Yup, that's right! Mana Clash. Now, you can actually kill him instantly, if you set up Morrigan to use her Vulnerability Hex on Boss or higher enemies, then just use Mana Clash on him. I was not in the mood to change her tactics just for this fight though, so we will not do that here. After we cast Mana Clash, he is going to try to heal himself with his Blood Sacrifice spell, and kill his own soldiers in the process. Even if he just gets rid of one, it will be a big help for us. During the fight we really need to focus on him, and unload everything we have on him. Paralyzing and knocking him down can prevent him from healing himself, and to cast spells. This can end the fight very quickly. Once his health reaches 0, the fight ends, and a cutscene will play. You can let him go, or continue the fight. He also gives you the option to kill all the elves in the warehouse, in a ritual that would augment your health a "great deal". He is just a lying Blood Mage. Your health will only be boosted by a pathetic 5 points. Hardly worth the price. Especially since, if you pick this option, the trader in the Alienage will be unavailable(he has a skill book, so we definitely want to trade with him). So just kill him and be done with him. After he is dead, another cutscene will play where the elves leader, Valendrian, will thank you for the rescue. Now we can go and sell our junk in the shop, and buy the last skill book in the game. 20:19:41 THE LAST SKILL BOOK We are going to place it on Expert Herbalism. 20:20:12 SER OTTO The "Something Wicked" quest. Let's talk to the Deranged Beggar, check the pool of blood, and the dead dog. Let's report back to Otto. Also, let's give a few more coins to the beggars. 20:25:23 HAUNTED ORPHANAGE Creepy place, and pretty dangerous. At least for Ser Otto. Without him, we will fail the quest so we make sure he gets to the end. Put a Lifeward on him instantly. 20:27:29 THE FIRST CONFRONTATION Quick and easy, if you know what to do. The Rage Demon is weak to ice, so we use Cone of Cold and Winter's Grasp. The Shades who appear will be lasted with a Mana Clash. Poof! The fight is over. 20:31:12 THE FINAL CONFRONTATION First we quickly kill the Elite Rage demon with some ice and a few hits from our warriors. Then after the unfortunate fate of Set Otto, we will take down the Rage Demon boss. The fight is not difficult for the War Mage, but the room will "heat up" quickly, and the fire damage can be quite brutal. The Rage Demon boss must be attacked with ice, then at half health, more Normal Rage Demons will appear. At that time, we can already use Mana Clash, which will take out everyone, if not resisted. 20:33:20 LEVEL 21 3 points on Magic, and we pick up Master Herbalism and the Rejuvenate spell. 20:33:55 LOOTING THE ALIENAGE WITH LELIANA Yup, we do this again. You can skip it here: 20:37:42 Let's watch the funny scene with the beggars first. Then let's head back to the Orphanage, then the Warehouse. Finally, we finish with Valendrian's house. 20:35:44 GIVE THE DERAGNED BEGGAR THE AMULET 20:36:21 I TOLD YOU WE RETURN HERE We just kill the enemies and loot the room. 20:39:25 STEN LEVEL 20 3 Strength. There is nothing left to pick up, so we just get Final Blow. After level 19, his talents are no longer important. We return to Guild with the completed quest, and pick up the final Guild Quest. Defending the Collective. We will go to Redcliffe and talk to the Templar there, then we talk to the one in Denerim to get the reward for both options. We also turn in our quest to the Chanter's Board. The last quest, Jowan's Intention is bugged, and can't be completed without the console commands, which we will not use. Finally we, also go back the Irregulars to turn in our quests, and receive the final mission "A Change in Leadership" from them. We will go after Taoran, simply because killing him is harder than killing his father. 20:43:01 TAORAN'S CAMP Yeah, let's kill the brat and his minions. usually I walk away, but I wanted this fight for this playthrough. The battle is dangerous because everyone here, except a few archers, are dual weapon warriors who use Momentum, so they are swimming in DPS. Taoran is also a boss, and the archers can also stun with Scattershot. Morrigan will be in the biggest danger obviously. As soon as the fight starts, we Mind Blast the crowd, then place a Repulsion Glyph around Morrigan. She will also place a Warding Glyph around herself, so she will be protected. Healing is very important, because, as I said, these guys are serious when it comes to damage. So let Sten and Alistair do most of the work for you, but make sure to replenish their health. After the death of Taoran and his men, we loot them and turn the quest in at the tavern. 20:46:50 IT'S TIME TO FINALLY CHALLENGE LOGHAIN We go back to Eamon, and tell him about what happened in the Alienage. We have enough evidence and support to face Loghain now! 20:48:20 CONFRONTING LOGHAIN Everyone turns against him, except Ceorlic, who will support him no matter what. Still, we are ready to settle this honorably, so we challenge him to a duel. And we proceed to utterly embarrass him. Poor man can barely pull out his sword during the duel. We execute him, and let Anora marry Alistair, so they can rule Ferelden together. 21:01:30 BONUS SPELL Completing the Landsmeet gives us a bonus talent/spell. We pick Regeneration. 21:01:58 MORRIGAN LEVEL 21 3 on Willpower, Improved Combat Tactics, and Glyph of Repulsion. 21:03:21 TIME TO BEAT DOWN THOSE ELITE BOSSES! Before we stop the Blight, we have a few Elite Bosses to take care of. The first is going to be Gaxkang, the second will be Flemeth, then we will kill the High Dragon. 21:03:50 GAXKANG For Gaxkang, we will use Mana Clash, boosted by Morrigan's Vulnerability Hex. If all goes well, he will die instantly. If all goes well... First we talk to the demon, then as soon the cutscene ends, we use Cone of Cold on him. This will paralyze him, but not for long. Our goal is to give Morrigan enough time to cast her Hex. Then, we hit him with Petrify, so we can safely use Mana Clash on him. Voila! He is dead and gone. Loot him and the room and let's move on to the next Elite Boss. 21:07:10 FLEMETH We can't bring Morrigan here, so we will use Wynne. We made sure that she has tons of Healing spells and paralyzing spells, so she will do fine. Once Flemeth turns into a dragon, we use Cone of Cold to paralyze her. This will give the warriors time to get to her without being attacked. Once they are there, we use Petrify and Glyph of Paralysis on her to keep her still. When she Grabs one of our warriors, we use Cone of Cold to paralyze the dragon. If we have no spell ready that can paralyze, we make sure the member won't fall by using Lifeward, Group Heal and Heal on the grabbed warrior. As a last resort, we can use Force Field. Our team, deals enough damage to take her down pretty quickly. It's all about surviving her viscous attacks in that one minute until her health goes down to zero. Once she is done, we get her key, and her book from the hut. We bring it back to Morrigan and talk to her. Her approval is now maxed, and we have finished the last companion quest! 21:15:21 THE HIGH DRAGON & ALISTAIR LEVEL 21 Alistair gets 3 point on Strength. The rest is irrelevant, his build is complete. I picked Poison Making and Momentum. He will use neither. Let's take that lizard down! We set up a new tactic preset for Morrigan. We make her use Glyph of Paralysis, Vulnerability Hex and Winter's Grasp on the dragon. She will also heal herself and the party whenever she can. Alistair and Sten gets minor tweaks. Sten will not use Pommel Strike, because it is useless against the dragon, and Alistair will use Riposte on any enemy, not just the one who attacks me. Our tactics will be the same as they were with Flemeth. The High Dragon is just a harder version of Flemeth. We will heal, and paralyze mostly. In addition to this, we will cast some damaging spells like Winter's Grasp or Bloody Grasp. It is actually a pretty good tactic to stay in front of the dragon(out of range of course) and just draw lots of aggro. This way she will concentrate on us, and the only thing she can use is her Fire Ball, and Flame Breath. Both can be easily countered with our healing spells, even without any resistance. This way the warriors can also attack her from the back, and they don't have to be afraid to be Grabbed. With this tactics, she actually fell faster than Flemeth, despite hagin more health than Flemeth. Once she is killed, we get the loot from her body, and bring that Dragon Scale back to Wade. 21:20:15 WADE AND HIS FINEST WORK We give the scales, and get the armor. Quest completed. We pick the Bone Plate. It is the most valuable. We will sell it afterwards. After this we will collect all of the remaining Backpacks from various merchants, so our inventory could reach its maximum space, which is 125. We also pick up the last letter from the Tavern quest "Correspondence Interruptus". However, this quest is also bugged. I have all the 12 letters, yet my inventory only has the one I just picked up. So, I can't turn the quest in. 21:29:55 GETTING RID OF THE DARKSPAWN IN REDCLIFFE We talk to the man at the bridge and proceed into the village. Honestly, there is nothing here in Redcliffe that we have not seen before. Emissaries get Mana Clash, Ogres get Petrify and Glyph of Paralysis. Everyone else will get Fire Ball, Cone of Cold or Flame Blast. Simple. Most darkspawn here will die in one hit. 21:39:55 THIS IS WHERE THEY WOULD ALL GO NUDE This is where I would usually undress all of my companions who won't come with me during the final battle, and sell their equipment. During the section where they hold the gate, the ally support is more than enough to hold the darkspawn back, even if they are all in their underwear. But since this is a playthrough, I decided to leave them with some dignity. This is also where we can finally buy the First Enchanter Cowl, the final piece of our endgame equipment. A hat that looks a thousand times better than our current one, and it give 10% dodge and magic resistance. 21:41:30 LET'S SEE WHAT RIORDANHAS TO SAY The Warden who kills the Archdemon dies. That's pretty much it. 21:43:59 MORRIGAN'S OFFER I want to save my hide, but I'm not ready to be a father, so... Alistair? Where are you? After the deal is done, there is an extremely uncomfortable "sex" scene. Remember when I said that the Broodmother is probably the most disturbing thing in Dragon Age? I lied! I adore and love this game to death! But I haven't watched this cutscene in ten years. My finger hitting the Escape button when I start to hear the music, is in my muscle memory already. But now, I had to watch the thing because of the playthrough. 21:49:39 THE SIEGE OF DENERIM Here we are, this is it. Time to end the Blight. After gathering our army, listening to Alistair's speech, we are ready and eager to face anything! 21:53:15 DENERIM GATES Very easy fight. Just kill everyone. Almost every darkspawn here are one hit kills, so just slaughter them! When they are done, get Alistar, Sten and Morrigan in the party. I picked Wynne as the defender, because this way I will control her during the defense of the gate. She is a healer, so it is very easy to not let anyone fall in battle with her. We say our goodbyes to our friends and let's head into the city! 22:02:35 STEN LEVEL 21 3 Strength. The rest does not matter. 22:02:49 MARKET DISTRICT - HURLOCK WARRIOR GENERAL Since we want to keep all of our allies unharmed, we will only call them when we know we will not lose any. The Market District only has three types of enemies. Genlock Emissaries, Ogres and the General. The General is a two-handed warrior. He hits almost as hard as Cauthrien, and he has Indomitable, which makes him immune to stun and knockdown. We Mana Clash the first Emissary, and get rid of the Ogres. Then we approach the General. Be careful because the General like to target Morrigan, and she can die in just two hits from this guy. Petrify, Cone of Cold and Glyph of Paralysis works well on him. Because of our team's damage, he is pretty easy to take down once he can't attack. Once he done, loot him, but be careful! Emissaries can surprise you with a Crushing Prison from afar, so just watch your back. 22:05:58 THE ALIENAGE - MAGE GENERAL This would be a tough fight, but we have Mana Clash, so it is pretty easy. Use the spell on the General from above the gate, which will take away most of his health, then cast Bloody Grasp and Stonefist to finish him off. Once you get him and the Ogre out of the picture, it's a slaughterhouse. This is a great place to call the elves as help. You won't lose a single one. They will all gather at the gates where the darkspawn were trying to break in, and fire a deadly volley of arrows on the approaching horde. With your Fire Balls, Alistair's(and Sten's) melee and heir arrows, this is child's play. After they are defeated, go back to Shianni, and get the Dawn ring as a reward, then head to the gate after the bridge. 22:09:08 DENERIM GATES AGAIN Our valiant allies will hold the gate. The allies are actually very overpowered here. Archers on elevation, eight additional soldiers, and all of your followers are here. You can even summon allies from the treaties. So call the elves. They will keep a distance from the fight, since they have bows. No chance of losing any of them. Who you will have during the fight is random. We have Oghren, Leliana, and Dog. They will do. We also have control over Wynne. We picked her so we can heal if our party needs it. Your priority is to take down the Ogre boss fast. He can actually deal some real damage to the trops, and he is basically the only threat here. Wynne has three types of paralyzing spells so this won't be difficult. Once the beast is down, just slaughter the rest. It's best if you are not doing anything, other than being ready with a Stonefist or a Petrify spell for the appearing Emissaries. After the reinforcement is crushed, let's return to our War Mage. 22:13:34 REACHING FORT DRAKON Riordan is dead, but he gave us a chance to kill the Archdemon by making sure it can't fly away. The dragon is now at the top of Fort Drakon. So we need to get there first. This is by far the most dangerous encounter during the final battle! We approach from the left. There is one Elite Ogre there, so we pause our team and start attacking it. Once hi health is around half, we throw a Fire Ball at it. That will clear out all the small archer drakspawn around it. We summon the team and let's rock! At this point if we approach the top of the stairs, the darkspawn archers already grouped up together. They stop moving as soon as we are in their line of sight. So we blast them with Cone of Cold. We watch for Morrigan, and if her health is low, we place her in a Force Field. For the next step, we are going to use a spell combination. At the top of the next stairs, there are some nasty enemies, who have a great advantage on us. One Elite Ogre, one Elite Genlock Archer, and one Elite Genlock Emissary. So let's apply Glyph of Repulsion on them, and cast Glyph of Paralysis on them after. Boom! Paralysis Explosion! Now that everyone has been paralyzed up there, we rush up and start cleaning. Make sure your team won't run into the Paralysis Explosion! I accidentally hit the J button here instead of the H(which is my quick key for team pause), so my Journal just pooped up. Once you reach the top of the stairs, the most important is to take out the Emissary. Use Mana Clash, fast. Then you can help the team by blasting the group with Flame Blast. Sorry, Alistair. There is a chance that an Emissary will spawn at the left side from the top of the stairs so watch out for him! To me it did not spawn this time, but I was ready for him with Stonefist. We are done here, let's move on! We approach the next stairs. Here we have two Emissaries, so we quickly set up Morrigan to use Force Field on someone who gets trapped into a Crushing Prison. Since you can't specifically set her up to use it when someone uses Crushing Prison, we make sure she uses it when someone is paralyzed. We slowly approach and blast the first Emissary with Mana Clash, then smack the rest of the darkspawn around him with a Fire Ball. The second Emissary is a bit further. We let the warriors charge ahead, so they can be locked into a Crushing Prison instead of us. When this happens, we use Force Field to get them out. Force Field is also good when your team member gets paralyzed by Glyph of Paralysis. Yeah, they are stuck but at least they can't take damage. Once the two Emissary is down, you can take the rest easily. However, watch for the new spawning darkspawn. There is a chance that an Emissary will spawn here so be ready! If everyone is dead, we proceed through the gate. Usually you can summon your allies, like the dwarves here, and they save you a lot of trouble by letting the Emissaries target them instead of you. But you will lose a lot of guys. 22:18:11 LEVEL 23 3 points on Magic, and we pick up Cleansing Area. 22:18:42 THE ENTRANCE OF FORT DRAKON Pretty mean place, especially without the allies. First, we have a lot of archers. Three on both sides. Fire Ball or any other aoe spell will do. As we go closer, a dragon thrall will spawn. We will let him approach us and let the warriors take them on. We definitely won't just rush ahead. After the lizard has been dealt with, we use Mana Clash from afar to take down the two Emissaries directly in front of the entrance doors. This fight just got a whole lot easier! The next target is the Alpha Genlock. He uses Arrow of Slaying and Scattershot, so he needs to die fast. We cast a Glyph of Repulsion again to set up a Paralysis Explosion. Fortunately for us, he already had a Glyph of Paralysis around him so the explosion was set off instantly, and we still have our Paralysis. Sten can make short work of him after that. Alistair get a little freeze from me, sorry brother... Morrigan put him in to a Force Field while Sten is taking down the rest. We boost him with Lifeward just in case. We quickly loot the entrance, change Morrigan's tactics with the Force Field and head inside. 22:20:50 THE MAIN FLOOR OF FORT DRAKON - GENLOCK CONJURER The fight ahead is not difficult, but tricky. The Genlock Shifter Boss will use the spawning Shades to keep teleporting when he takes damage. Normally, we would blast him with Mana Clash, right? Well, that is not the solution here. Here, you ahve to let the Shades get close to you, and when they are near, BOOM! Use Mana Clash. This will take out half of them, the other half can be dealt with by the team. This removes the ability from the boss to teleport into the Shades to save himself. After this, he is toast. Especially if you Petrify him first. 22:21:43 MORRIGAN LEVEL 22 1 Magic, 2 Willpower. The spell is irrelevant at this point. I just picked Arcane Bolt. After we level her up, we head into the next room. Two Emissaries will be here, but they are not that dangerous. WE use Mana Clash on the Shapeshiter(the Genlock), and Fir Ball the other. Then we just let Alistair kill him. There are also a lot of walking corpses here, but die in one hit. We loot the rooms, then talk to Sandal and sell our junk. Any last minute Enchantment? Nah, I just wanted to hear him say that one last time. 22:23:25 IN CASE TOU ARE WONDERING... If you have no idea what I'm doing here, let me tell you. I noticed that a Glyph of Warding effect was stuck on me. I don't want any glitched advantage on me, so I was trying to take it off, but it was not from me. It was from Morrigan, so I had to re-apply the spell with her, and leave the radius to finally remove it. Eh. 22:24:11 SECOND FLOOR We loot the room, then we proceed forward. There are two chests on top at the top of the stairs, but we will not go there since they are both locked. The next room will have three Elite darkspawn. One of each type of warrior class. Turn left, and use Cone of Cold on the two that are near to each other. Stonefist also works. Protect Morrigan with a Repulsion Glyph in case the third darkspawn attacks her. Sten and Morrigan take that one out this way and you don't have to focus on him. We finish off the other two with some magic and Alistair. And check on the damage on that guy! Alistair is a total badass! 79 basic attack damage and 42 fire? With each swing? Wrecking Ballistair! 22:25:01 DOOR 1 Lots of darkspawn, not much danger. Use Cone of Cold on the group in front of you, then Fire Ball on the group on the right. The far right side can get some Flame Blast, while your team goes after the Elite. 22:25:31 DOOR 2 - MASTER ASSASSIN BOSS Lots of darkspawn, LOTS OF DANGER! Especially for Morrigan! There is a Master Assassin behind this door, with his acolytes. The acolytes are not hard, but the Master Assassin hits very hard and has Mark of Death. That is a guaranteed death for Morrigan if she is being targeted. The place is also filled with Leghold Traps. So we won't rush, in. In act we won't go in at all! We stop the team, and open the door so they can come to us. We can welcome them with Cone of Cold and Flame Blast as they coming towards us. Then hit them with Mind Blast and it's time for the warriors to do their job. Morrigan put Horror on the boss, so we will pay extra attention to her, because she just pulled aggro on herself. Stonefist and Repulsion can keep the Master at bay. However, he still managed to put Mark of Death on our little witch, so we Force Field her immediately. It turned out to be a good call, because she was hit with Flurry a second later. With her protected, the Master can be taken down by the warriors. Keep you Healing Magic ready, just in case. 22:26:32 THE DOOR THAT LEADS TO THE TOP An Emissary in an advantageous position, with two Ogres. This fight can also be dangerous. The mage can lock you into a Force Field, and then the Ogres can spam Ram on you until you die. So let's approach with caution. From afar, we will try to Mana Clash the Emissary. It worked! If it does not, then we need to let our warriors charge in first, so we can save them with Force Field, when they get Prisoned. If the Emissary falls, the Ogres will provide little challenge. 22:28:26 THE ARCHDEMON After everything we faced to get there, this is not going to be difficult at all. We won't even call the allies to help. Since we have defeated the two Generals, the only thing we need to focus on is the The Archdemon. It can be taken down by the usual dragon fighting tactics: paralyzing spells, and relentless melee form our party. It will barely able to do any attacks, because our party damage is so high. It will just keep teleporting away, until it retreats into a position we can't reach. But the Ballistas can! My tactic with the Ballistas is simple: patience. If you don't have a rogue in the party, then you have no way of repairing them if they jam. We don't have a rogue. However, based on my experience, if you fire the ballista after it is fully loaded, instead of keep spamming the left click on it, then it has a much lower chance to jam. This way we can take down the dragon with just one, instead of switching positions to use the other ones. This is the best way to force the Archdemon back into the battlefield. After this, it will no longer fly anywhere, and it will be a sitting duck, waiting to be killed. Which is what will happen here. Pretty fast. After the final blow from Alistair, let's watch the cutscene an be ready for the celebration! The Blight is over! 22:34:01 THE HERO OF FERELDEN We did it! It's time to celebrate! Let's talk to our friends and head for the exit. And with that, the video and the guide is over. I hope you enjoyed it, and I wish you good luck on your journey!
- Dragon Age Origins War Mage "Combat-Playthrough": TIME STAMPS/TACTICS PART 2
THE FADE -------------- 8:27:27 ENTERING THE FADE We are back! Everyone loves this quest so much! Right? It's not like there is an entire mod created just to skip this, right? Well, we won't. So it's time to wake up. I have a little strategy to get all the attribute points ASAP, so you might want to follow it if you want to get this done fast. However, if you truly hate this part and you want nothing to do with it, you can skip the entire Fade part of this video here: 9:16:51. First, we are going to get all the forms. Mouse first, then Burning Man, Golem and finally the Arcane Horror. We don't focus on the bosses yet, we need to get the forms. Once we have them, we can just teleport back to the beginning and sweep the entire Fade for the Fade Fonts while we are hunting down the bosses. We can save a lot of time this way. 8:31:19 MOUSE FORM Just kill the Rage Demon. Nothing more. Same with the following demons. They are all weak, we don't even need Mana Clash against them. The Mouse form is the most useless. It gives us Stealth, which we will not use. However, we can access mouse holes with it. 8:33:36 BURNING TOWER We go after the Burning Man form. We need this to access places that are closed off by fire. The form is pretty cool. It moves faster and it has Fire Ball. We will stay in it as much as we can. Remember though: the form is completely immune to fire, but weak to cold. We pick up the from here: 8:36:20. Just focus on the templar. Once his health is down, the fight ends. 8:37:14 MAGES ASSUNDER We are here for the Golem form. My favorite! It can break doors. It can also throw rocks to knock enemies down, stun enemies by hitting the ground and it has a Slam that can't miss. We gain a lot of health, armor and physical resistance when we use it. The damage is lacking a bit, because we are mages. With warriors the golem levels everything. The form is immune to stun effects. Mostly we are going to use the Burning Man form here, since mages have fire spells and this form is immune to fire. We also throw our Fire Ball around, which usually kills everything in one hit. The Lyrium Veins can give us both health and mana if we need either one. We get the form here: 8:41:22. 8:42:28 DARKSPAWN INVASION Let's get the last form, the Arcane Horror. It can see transparent doors and some Fade Fonts can only be touched with this form. It also has Crushing Prison, Regenerate and Winter's Grasp. All are very powerful if we play as a mage. This form is immune to fear effects. There are a lot of darkspawn here, some of them are even elites. However, with our Golem form, this place is not difficult. We pick up the form here: 8:45:55. Honestly, not much to say about this fight. Stay in golem form and crush them. It is best to take out the Emissary first. 8:46:53 BACK AT THE BEGINNING Follow my path and my tactics, and you will get out of here in no time, with all the bonus attributes. You can slow down the footage if it is too fast. 9:01:00 LEVEL 13 Everything on Magic, we pick up Winter's Grasp to increase the number of our single target spells. It's a great spell with good damage and chance to freeze. 9:03:35 THE MOST DANGEROUS DOOR IN THE FADE Probably. The Arcane Horror has Crushing Prison(and uses it instantly when you an in range), which is a death sentence at this level. Especially since it likes to follow it up with Fire Ball. Stay far away, use the Golem to smash the door and switch back to your form and Mana Clash it. If it resist Mana Clash, try a Fire Ball to knock it down and Petrify to paralyze it. It CAN'T be allowed to use Crushing Prison on you. I don't remember if zooming out and Mana Clash it through the door works here or not, but I believe it does. So there is another option for you. 9:05:39 WYNNE'S NIGHTMARE Oh, boy! I forgot about this. This is by far the most dangerous place in the Fade, if you don't use dlc equipment and you are a mage. Let me explain. See those "students" Wynne is whining about? Yup, they have a bunch of nasty spells. As soon as the fight starts, the one behind you will put a Paralyze spell on you(she can cast if faster then you can cast Mana Clash). Paralyze on Nightmare has a very long duration, so you are screwed if you don't resist it. The others will throw Fire Ball, Lightning etc. So you will die paralyzed. Not even Wynne's healing will save you. Good thing I resisted the Paralyze spell here! But let's not leave it up to chance. Here is what you need to do: Unequip your staff before you enter. Yup, it's as simple as that. The mage who casts Paralyze will have her staff equipped when the combat starts, so she can cast it instantly. You, on the other hand, have to get your staff from your back first. So you die. However, if you don't have a staff, you can pause the game and instantly cast Mana Clash, which will kill them before the Paralyze spell can hit you. You will still be Paralyzed, but there will be no enemies left. With good magic resistance this can be much easier. With dlc equipment, we would have bought Spellward long ago, which would double the chance that their spells would fail on you. 9:08:08 ALISTAIR'S NIGHTMARE Alistair dreams about his sister who he haven't met. Easy. Just convince him to snap out of it. With level 2 Coercion, it's guaranteed. The two of you can easily get rid of the skeletons and the laughable Goldana. 9:10:31 MORRIGAN'S NIGHTMARE Just the old hag Flemeth. And she is not the real one anyway. Mana Clash. Morrigan will activate Haste since she is set up to use it when she is in the party. Deactivate it, so when she joins again against Sloth, she can cast it for the group. 9:11:51 SLOTH BOSS FIGHT Finally, we can get out of here! Not so fast though. Sloth can actually be more challenging than Uldred. He has many forms, and some of them are very dangerous. You have to beat five different forms, one after the other: Ogre. Uses Ogre tactics. Also suffers additional damage from Bloody Grasp like all darkspawn. Be careful with his Ram, and Grab. Petrify is pretty good against him. You can also cheese him to follow you and let the team wear him down. Remember the Tower of Ishal? Rage Demon. Uses Rage Demon tactics, meaning he will burn everything he touches. Cold is very useful here, because of its massive weakness to it. Abomination. Uses Abomination tactics. Nasty close combat strikes, so keep him away from your mages. Easy to knock him down and he does not have much armor. Shade. Uses Shade tactics. Aura of Weakness basically makes Alistair miss all the time. However he is not tough nor particularly dangerous. Use Winter's Grasp, and spirit damage spells. Arcane Horror, or "true" form. Yikes! Now this one is bad. Crushing Prison, Fire Ball, Winter's Grasp, Cone of Cold, Blizzard. He uses all of them and often. Luckily we have Mana Clash! So just blast him and be done with him. Oh, wait... he resisted it? Well, let's do this the hard way then. He is immune to cold, so don't use Winter's Grasp for damage. Use it to freeze him. However, it will not hold him for long. Petrify is great, but it will also not last long. It is great to interrupt his spells though. Same with Stonefist, which will knock him on his butt. Alistair's Punisher will do the same. No matter what you do, just make sure he does not cast spells. If he does, you can end up dead very fast. 9:16:51. DONE! WE ARE OUT! Pick up the Litany from Nial's body. Little thing is more useful than it looks. After this, I try to make some room in my inventory, which is completely full. I place some items on Wynne and Morrigan and even myself, that are not part of their build, just to be able to carry more stuff. I just love loot! And we need the money. 9:19:41 CULLEN Shh, just let us get on our way Commander of the Inquisition. Sheesh. Who would have thought that this guy would turn into a level-headed military commander? 9:22:28 ULDRED Okay Uldred, it's time to die. I kind of wish we would know more about Uldred. What was his plan at the beginning when he said that the Tower of Ishal was "unnecessary"? Could Loghain's treachery been avoided? Well, he is an Abomination now so we will never know. He is not just any Abomination though. He actually transforms into a Pride Demon. Basically the most powerful and most dangerous demon type. Remember "Mouse"? Yup, just like that one. The Abominations are easy to kill, just blast them with Mana Clash. The Pride Demon however, is immune to Mana Clash so don't bother. On top of this, most of his special spells are completely ignore magic resistance. Fire Bolt, Frost Bolt, Fire Blast and Frost Burst are not considered spells so even at 100% magic resistance, they will connect. Same with Mana Wave, which is a very annoying Dispel-like ability that removes all magical buffs from the party. He also he has Crushing Prison, Mana Drain and Anti-Magic Ward. His melee attack is also pretty strong. His armor is also very powerful so even dual-weapon Alistair barely scratches him with physical attacks. Petrify works wonders on him. Same with any type of paralyzing spell, because if he can't move, he can't cast spells. Cold spells also work well on him. Fire? Not so much. He has a pretty high fire resistance. If he uses Crushing Prison on us, don't panic. We have Wynne, so we should be fine as long as he does not hit us with anything else during its duration. Adralla's Litany is actually the best weapon here: not only it disrupts his ability to turn mages into Abominations, but also interrupts whatever spell he is trying to cast! Use it whenever he is about to use one of his more dangerous spells. Once he is dealt with, loot him. He has the Cinderfell Gloves on him, which is great for us. It gives bonus to fire damage, which makes our Fire Ball and Flame Blast more powerful. 9:28:18 WE HAVE THE MAGES & WYNNE JOINS THE PARTY Now we can go to Redcliffe and get the best ending for Connor and Isolde! We also ask Irving if Dagna can join the Circle. 9:31:39 LELIANA TELLS HER STORY We listen to her. Then we change our gloves to the one we picked up from Uldred. We cange our hat too to the Libertarian's Cowl. I know it's just as ugly as the one before but it is still better. And sell your junk! You are loaded! We also change Morrigan's equipment. Purely because of the looks actually. The Archon Robes looks better on her than Avernus' rag, which I pass onto Wynne. They are equally good anyway. 9:36:38 ENCHANTMENT! I put a few runes on Alistair's weapon, because why not? He has a chance now to paralyze enemies and he has additional magic resistance. Honestly we don't really need enchantment to make this build or team work, but I wanted to show the Enchanting process. We are gonna pretty much ignore it after this. 9:39:10 TENTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER "Five Pages, Four Mages" quest. Mana Clash the mage on the hill then kill the forger and his men. Honestly? What exactly is the point of the Cameo Cowl? A "mage only" hat that gives Cunning? Or are we supposed to wear it for the 0.5 health regen? Am I missing something here? 9:40:32 DAGNA GOES TO THE CIRCLE She will either give a Greater Lyrium potion or a level dependent Dweomer rune. I always pick the rune. Also, don't tell her dad, the blacksmith right next to her, that you helped her. He will not trade with you anymore if you do. 9:42:43 ELEVENTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Zevran and the Crows. This can be dangerous if they ambush you the first time. They have six archers, three dual dagger rogues, one mage and of course Zevran. Zevran has both dual dagger and a bow. Obviously, we Mana Clash the mage first. She is very dangerous, and for some reason she is immune to knockdown and stun. Don't try to smack her with Stonefist first or stun her with Mind Blast. This would just give her time to cast her Fire Ball and Chain Lightning. Sadly, I got Paralyzed, but my team is pretty competent at keeping me safe, now that the mage is gone. After Paralyze wears off, we heal and we smack the archers on the elevated position with a Fire Ball and a couple of basic attacks. Winter's Grasp and Bloody Grasp can also take them out. The team will handle the rest. I am not sure what Sten is doing here: 9:44:36. Moonwalk? 100 centimeter dash? No idea. Wake Zevran up and let him join the team. 9:48:33 RARE IRONBARK QUEST COMPLETED We have a lot of options. We can have both, one or the other or neither. I'm a good guy, so I won't make him do both. I do need the money though so I picked the armor. 9:49:33 IGNACIO We are going after The Trial of Crows quest. 9:50:59 KYLON'S REWARD Forgot about his reward after getting rid of the gangs in Denerim. We will pick it up now. 9:53:53 KADAN-FE We already got rid of Paedan, so our first target will be the qunari mercenary band. Lots of big men with heavy armor. Magic is pretty good here. Fire Ball and Flame Blast whoever you can, then lock yourself into a Force Field and let your team do the rest. Remember this tactic? Although I did manage to get most of the enemies attention, Morrigan was irresistible for that one qunari. My heal was just in time. Loot the Whitewood bow from the chest. The best Shortbow in the game. In fact it is as good as any Longbow. 9:56:13 THE CARTA Okay, time for some real action. Let's get rid of Jarvia and the Carta! Nadezda gets nothing, we need the money. 9:57:16 CARTA AMBUSH Focus on the Elite Leader. If his health goes down, the fight ends. Once they surrender use intimidate or persuade to get the location from him. You can let them go or finish the job. I let them go. My mage is a nice guy. 9:59:12 INSIDE THE BASE We got through the door and got rid of the guard. No matter what you pick as password they always attack you. Since there are a lot of traps all over the carta base, it is best to use team pause often. Go solo first and smack the dwarves around with some Fire Balls. Let them come to you, then let your team help. This will be the primary strategy until we reach Jarvia. Also, I decided not to save Leske. Backstabbing little duster! 10:00:48 JAMMER'S STASH Simple small side quest. When looting his boxes, always pick the most worthless item. Silver Iron Garnet Done. Your reward will be a key to his stash, just before the boss fight. 10:00:53 ALISTAIR LEVEL 13 Everything goes on Strength, and we pick Threaten. 10:05:51 ASSASSINS Watch for Morrigan. Flush them out of Stealth with Mind Blast. 10:10:12 JARVIA Very tough fight. Basically the mid level Cauthrien fight. The girl hits like a truck. She has a bow and she also dual wields two axes. She summons new guards whenever her health goes down a bit. She is also behind a set of traps. Those traps are very damaging, even Sten would fall instantly at this point if he triggers them. DO NOT attack her directly and prevent your team to try to go after her. If we want to keep our entire team alive during this boss fight, we need tu get enough aggro on use for Jarvia to leave the area with the traps. Then we use everything to keep her still and not retreat into Stealth. Petrify, Stonefist, Mind Blast etc. Morrigan can draw aggro with her Horror, which can also disable Jarvia. However, when this happens and Jarvia targets Morrigan, put her into a Force Fiel immediately. She can't tank any of ther damage. Neither can we really... so the same goes for us. Fire Ball works great on the low tier carta archers, and the Elite Assassins should be flush out of Stealth with Mind Blast. See, this is why I love Petrify. It holds even bosses for a pretty long time. Ugh, Alistair. You really should learn not to run into my fire spells. It's a bit boring at this point. 10:13:49 STEN LEVEL 13 Everything on Strength, we pick up Sunder Armor for him. 10:14:47 LOOT THE CARTA BASE WITH LELIANA This is going to be a common thing. We go back to the places we cleared and loot it with Leliana. She can open almost all locks if we get Device Master for her. You can skip the looting here: 10:17:20. 10:16:27 UGH. SPIDERS. Not a problem as long as you send your team towards the box and you don't get Webbed. These are not as dangerous as the ones at Ostagar. 10:18:10 WE HAVE THE LIFEGIVER Yay! Now our build will have the durability to be way more aggressive! We are one big step closer to become the War Mage we want to be! 10:19:53 OGHREN Yeah, we get him. We won't go to the Deep Roads yet though. 10:22:57 MORRIGAN LEVEL 14 2 Magic, 1 Willpower. Spirit Healer specialization for her, and the Group Heal spell. 10:23:21 LEVEL 14 Everything goes on Magic. As always. We pick up Revival. We also proceed to throw it away, since we have no use for it. You should keep it though, and use it when a member has fallen in battle. 10:25:14 THE AMBASSADOR Continuing "The Trial of Crows" quest for Ignacio. 10:26:53 THIRD DENERIM RANDOM ENCOUNTER Black vial. Yup, it happened. So let's beat that Revenant. Make sure you pull enough aggro so the thing won't go after Morrigan. You have enough health and armor now to tank quite a few hits. Morrigan doesn't. Petrify is great for this, even if it is resisted. Heal often, use spirit and fire damage, it is immune to cold. The ambush after this is a joke. Burn them all! 10:28:37 KIDNAPPED SON The Trial of Crows. Last favor. You have three Elite Crows helping you, so why not chuck a Fire Ball right into the crowd? Honestly, with an initial Fire Ball, double Group Heal, Mind Blast and a dual weapon Alistair, this will not be difficult. It would be if you would not have these. But you do, right? Also, when you get back, don't get tempted to kill Ignacio. Cesar's special stock is better than what he would have on his corpse. Especially if you are a rogue or like poisons. 10:32:36 MORRIGAN GETS HER BOOK Finally we give her the tome from Irving's room. We also boost her approval with the gifts we have. Same with Sten, Alistair, Wynne, Leliana(we give her Andraste's Grace too), Shale, Zevran(Dalish Gloves too, but we ask about the Dalish first, more approval this way) and Oghren. After this, we are trying to trigger Old Tegrim's encounter to get the skill tome. 10:28:55 TWELFTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Not Tegrim... The mages vs darkspawn. We try to keep the mages alive. Why not? Fire Ball the group and heal your allies. Pretty simple. 10:40:50 FINALLY TEGRIM! Buy the skill book, put the skill on Expert Coercion. REDCLIFFE ---------------- 10:41:19 ARRIVAL Alistair wants to say something. Yeah, we know. He is the heir. We will save the village(and not losing anyone). I'm a good boy, remember? Plus this gets you the most amount of gold and xp. I will also use Oghren and Leliana here before the battle, to get more approval on them. I don't need to boost Sten and Morrigan would just lose approval here. 10:45:41 BANN TEAGAN We pick up every quest here. Jetta gets nothing, because we have nothing for her. Kaitlyn will get her brother back, but she won't get the sword. Owen will get her daughter back(so he does the repairs) and we will take the armor when he gives us later on. Dwynn will help, and he will give us Sten's sword. The guys in the tavern will drink free because it MY tavern now(the stuff is now free in the shop so get everything, even if you don't need them). Loyd and Brewick will help us fight too. Loyd will give us a ring after the battle which will do fine on Sten. Ser Perth will get his amulets, but we won't tell him about the oil in the old store. The knights and Dwynn's men would just run into the fire like idiots during the battle, so shh. We also talk to the second guy from the Irregular's quest "Scraping the Barrel". Battle tactics: we will use Sten to Taunt non-stop. This will draw the attention of the enemies from the villagers and the knights. Easier to keep them safe this way. We will also heal them and Force Field them when they are low on health. It will be fun! 11:11:23 THE BATTLE STARTS The first part is easier then the second. That is if you don't tell Ser Perth about the oil. The knights are well armored and they have a lot of damage. Only Dwynn's guards have lame armor, but they deal good damage. Usually they last without heal. I don't wait for the undead to swarm use, I always Fire Ball them as they come. Honestly they are pretty weak at this point, so there really isn't much to say. Let your team and the knights slaughter them. The second part is the harder one. The militia, even with the repaired armor, are not as well equipped. They have Scattershot and a few new skills thanks to the free drinks, so that is good. But we will function mostly as healers here, so we can save the people who are about to die. Like the useless Loyd. After the initial charge, the corpses will be less dangerous. 11:20:35 ALISTAIR LEVEL 14 We turn him into a Berserker! Everything goes on Strength and we get Berserk for him. 11:26:48 MEETING AT THE MILL Isolde will appear with some bad news. Let's just get into the castle and kick some demon butt! 11:31:34 JOWAN? Yes, it's him. I released him. I'm a good guy. And he is just an idiot. Since his quest is bugged, this is the last time we see him. Good luck, buddy! And stay away from Blood Magic! The fights after this are pretty ordinary. Use fire on the corpses, and Mana Clash on the Shades. We change Sten's tactic so he won't Taunt everything anymore. 11:40:15 VALENA Don't forget about Owen's girl! 11:40:55 PUPPIES Dogs are always dangerous. Watch for their Overwhelm and Shred. They can also knock you down with Charge. It is best to keep Morrigan away from them. We can tank their damage, but don't let your health fall under 50%. That is when they use Overwhelm! 11:41:47 LEVEL 15 Everything goes on Magic, pick Master Coercion and Lifeward. 11:42:48 STEN LEVEL 14 Everything goes on Strength. I picked Berserker for specialization, but now that I think about it, Champion could have been even better. It's up to you. War Cry is awesome for knocking everyone down. I picked the Destroyed passive. 11:43:16 COURTYARD FIGHT One Elite Revenant, the rest is trash. You can use the knights to help you if you open the gate. Do so. When the Revenant uses Pull or Mass Pull, it is a good tactic to stand behind something. Anything really. Even an enemy will do fine. That way it can't pull you close to him. 11:44:30 HELLO CONNOR! The child is an Abomination, but he can be saved. First however, let's get knock some sense into Teagan. He is a Champion, he has War Cry and he loves to knock everyone down with it. He has a group of lame guards with him. If you are like me, and you brought Pert with you, this is no challenge at all. If you are not like me and you did not bring Perth, this is also no challenge at all at this point. 11:51:19 TIME TO SAVE CONNOR But before we do that, let's explore the castle a bit. First, let's deal with animated armors. Obviously, they have a lot of armor. Fire is our best option. They can use War Cry to knock you down. Perth and his men are in the other room, so they will come and help with them. Alistair's Mother's Amulet is in the desk in the next room. We will give him later. There is a door in the room where we fought the Suit of Armors. Open it, kill the Chamberlain Ghoul and get his key. 11:53:03 UPSTAIRS Lots of corpses, who are easy to deal with. One room has a gift for Alistair in a fancy chest and another room has a gift for Wynne on the bookshelf(we will pick that up as we leave). 11:54:44 THE VAULT ON THE SECOND FLOOR Remember the key we picked up from the ghoul? We will use it here. Get all that good stuff inside. There is a gift for Sten in the chest. 11:54:54 THERE'S CONNOR! You can talk to him. However, whatever you do, don't approach the bedroom of Eamon! We are here to save Connor, not to kill him! If you go close to Eamon's room, the demon will attack and we have to kill Connor in a boss fight. You can get the codex entry from the small bedroom right next to this one though, without trouble. 11:57:09 THIRTEENTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Chanter's Board quest "Unintended Consequences". Remember the guy we summoned in the mage tower? Yup, he is here. He is a boss and we need to kill him. Not much challenge, but once again, watch for Morrigan and draw the aggro on you. Focus on the boss. Once he is dead, the others will die as well. The boots we loot from him will go on Morrigan. 11:58:15 NOW WE CAN SAVE CONNOR We go into the Fade and we will intimidate the Desire Demon. The fights here are easy and they don't require much thinking. Just get rid of them. First fight: It's one Desire Demon. Very weak. She has no spells that you should be worry about. Second fight: It's the Desire Demon with a Rage Demon. Petrify the Desire and Stonefist her, then use Winter's Grasp on the Rage demon. They are both almost dead now. Just mop them up. Third fight: It's the Desire Demon with two Rage Demons. Retreat back, and throw a Fire Ball to knock everyone down. Use Winter's Grasp on one Rage Demon, Stonefist on the Desire Demon. They are both gone. The last Rage Demon gets an Arcane Bolt and Winter's Grasp. Final fight: The Elite Desire Demon. Fight her or strike a deal. I made a deal. With level 4 Coercion, we can intimidate her to leave and give us some gifts. This is where we could learn the Blood Mage specialization(6/12). I have the specialization already, so I picked the tome that gives us an extra spell. Pretty good deal. If you want to fight her, just use Mana Clash. She dies instantly. 12:06:40 MORRIGAN LEVEL 15 Everything on Willpower, pick Master Herbalism and Heal. She has a new tactics slot, so make sure she gets to use Heal on the team. 12:07:23 USING THE TOME Time to use the tome we got form the demon! Let's pick up Frost Weapons. 12:08:12 LOOTING WITH LELIANA Yes, we go through the castle again to get everything we can. It won't take long. 12:08:44 to skip it. 12:09:34 BOOSTING APPROVALS AGAIN We have new gifts, so let's give them away. We also finish Sten's quest by giving back his sword. You can sell the sword after you gave it. No penalties at all. I did not do that though. 12:15:45 TIME TO GET RICH! Yup, we have the gold, so let's do the Precious Metals quest! We also bring Leliana with us, so we can sweep the Circle Tower, and trigger her quest as well. 12:17:31 FOURTEENTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Assassins are after Leliana. The fight can become dangerous if you charge in straight ahead. There is a trap around the bridge and the witch can throw Fire Balls. You also have wolves with Overwhelm and the Assassin Leader can use Scattershot. So, pretty tough encounter. However, since we are mages, this can be survived pretty easily. Just stay still and concentrate on the leader. Petrify him and throw whatever else you can on him. Winter's Grasp, Stonefist, Bloody Grasp etc. Once his health goes down, the fight ends. If you kill him, you get the xp after his death. 12:19:52 LELIANA LOOTS THE CIRCLE TOWER You can skip it here: 12:23:30. 12:20:15 GODWIN To earn the maximum amount of gold, do it the way I did. First, persuade him to give you the most amount of gold(Master Coercion needed), then ask him about why he needs this much lyrium. After that pick the fourth option. "You must make a lot of money off of this." This will let you persuade him to give you some more gold. Now, back to Rogek(12:23:46). Pick the fourth option: "Are you kidding? You know it was thirty." He will give you 25 gold. 12:24:30 MORRIGAN'S NEW QUEST Morrigan's mommy issues. We will do the quest after the Landsmeet. 12:27:52 WE HAVE THE SPELLWARD Five out of the nine of our endgame equipment is already ours! Awesome! Now we have 30% dodge and 50% spell resistance. We also have 5 additional Willpower from this amulet. This is a true game changer. 12:28:49 WE BUY ANOTHER ARCANE TOME Use it, and pick the Cone of Cold spell. Now, Alistar and Sten can shatter multiple enemies with their critical hits, and so can we with Stonefist! 12:29:14 ALISTAIR'S QUEST Remember Goldana in the Fade? Where she was just a demon pretending to be Goldana? Well, the real one is worse! Seriously, what a rude hag. The persuasion only works if you are a male character. Once you leave the house, tell Alistair that you are his friend to keep him the way he is, or tell him that he needs to be out for himself to "harden" him. I picked the former. Just don't call him an idiot after you leave. He will get super mad at you. 12:35:20 ALISTAIR LEVEL 15 Put two on Strength, and one on Cunning. We will unlock Improved Combat tactics so we have more tactics slots. Pick Dual Weapon Sweep after that. 12:36:18 BATTLEFIELD Chanter's Board quest "Brothers and Sons". Lots of wolves here, and a boss level bear at the end. The mini map is helpful here because the wolves spawn all over the place. Look out for ambushes. They have Shred and Charge, along with Overwhelm, so this can get nasty if you are not careful! Especially for Morrigan. 12:39:01 CARAVAN Caravan Down Chanter's Board quest. Emissaries can be killed with Mana Clash(not sure why it did not work on the second one for me), but it it fails just use Stonefist and set your team on them. Not a difficult quest as long as you don't let them cast spells. NATURE OF THE BEAST ------------------- Let's finish this quest! 12:40:53 BACK IN THE FOREST First, we interact with the Mystical Site of Power at 12:41:04 for the Mage's Guild quest. Then we kill some bears and ogres. Pretty easy at this point. 12:42:26 WE TOUCH THE FIRST TOMBSTONE The first boss level Revenant with some skeletons. Watch for Morrigan! The boss, like all Revenants, is immune to cold. Still it can be frozen and petrified so let's do that. The best way to beat it is to get its attention and let Alistair kill the skeletons. Then we can mob up on him. We are durable enough to tank him, especially since Morrigan also has Heal and Group Heal. Loot its corpse for the Juggernaut Boots. 12:44:03 WE TOUCH THE SECOND TOMBSTONE This fight is a bit different than the first one. The Revenant is not the most dangerous enemy here. It's that sneaky mage on top of the hill above the grave. Yup, Mana Clash it immediately. The rest of the fight is similar to the one before. If Morrigan is targeted by the boss, Heal, Lifeward or Force Field her. After the fight, loot the boss for the Juggernaut Helmet. 12:45:31 MALEFICARS Another quest for the Guild. We had to leave the area for them to spawn. They don't spawn until you kill the Ogres. Mana Clash them. Simple. Loot the leader for the Black Hand Gauntlets. We have our endgame gloves! Our Mana Clash, Arcane Bolt and Bloody Grasp will be more powerful. 12:46:18 MAD HERMIT We get rid of him. It's a boss fight and normally, it would be pretty dangerous. However, we have Mana Clash and Cone of Cold, so it is not. 12:49:55 SWIFTRUNNER SECOND ENCOUNTER Wear his health down to 0, and the fight ends. 12:51:07 LEVEL 16 Boost Magic and pick Glyph of Paralysis. 12:51:38 WE TOUCH THE LAST TOMBSTONE Same as before. Watch for Morrigan, and kick its undead butt! Loot him to get the Juggernaut Gloves. 12:53:16 RUINS Pretty short area. A few skeletons, two werewolves a couple of spiders and at the end, a male dragon with some traps. The spiders and the dragon are the only ones worth mentioning. The hairy things are mostly just annoying, since their damage is not that big, and we are pretty tanky now, but their Web is still bothersome. 12:55:39 THE DRAGON You have to lure the lizard out in the room you came from. That way you will have the advantage and you will avoid the traps as well. He resisted both of my paralyzing spells... bad day at work. However, he could not Overwhelm Alistair, because he somehow ended up too close to the wall. Congratulation Dragon, you failed. Freeze him, heal your team and just wear his health down. Loot his treasure, but you better sick to the right side of the room when you go in. Otherwise you are bound to set up the pressure plates. Make sure you pause your team while you do it. 12:58:29 STEN LEVEL 15 Put 1 on Strength and 2 on Cunning. Unlock the second tier of Survival and the Berserk ability. 12:58:51 THE GHOST CHILD AND THE SKELETON HORDE As soon as the cutscene ends, a bunch of skeletons will charge at you. A bunch of them are coming from the room on the right, so welcome them with a Fire Ball! Circle around and freeze them, then set them on fire. Then another Fire Ball, another freeze etc. Sorry, Alistair! After the fight, we loot the Elven Tablet from the room on the right. 13:01:16 UNLOCKING THE ARCANE WARRIOR SPECIALIZATION(7/12) Just release the spirit at the altar. But ask for the knowledge first, of course. 13:03:53 ANOTHER BLACK VIAL Keep Morrigan away from it. Or Force Field her. That will do. Otherwise, we already dealt one before so you know the drill. Draw its attention and.. oh yeah! Heal Morrigan! 12:05:32 SKELETONS AND TRAPS Don't rush in. Leave your team behind and slowly start taking down the skeletons with Fire Balls and other spells. The room is filled with traps. On the left side, there is a corpse: 13:07:20. Loot it and get the journal. This is the second part of the Unbound quest. 13:07:27 MORRIGAN LEVEL 16 3 points on Magic. Pick Revival. We need it to get to Lifeward. 13:08:36 ARCANE HORROR IN THE RUINS Boss fight. Pretty nasty. Especially since the blasted corpse resisted my Mana Clash! Twice! What the hell? Ugh! Good thing I picked a few healing spells for Morrigan. Since the boss resisted my Mana Clash, this turned into a little "Who is the better mage?" duel. First off, we pause our team, and don't let them run into those strange squares. The boss teleports away whenever that happens. So let's whip out our best spells, and here we go! I start with a Petrify, which connects! However, it hits me with Paralyze! Ugh. Since this is Nightmare, I will stay paralyzed a lot longer than he will. Then he hits me with a Fire Ball, which burns my face nicely. He also starts chucking his Spirit Balls at me. Wonderful. Morrigan heals me back up. Thanks girl! Okay, we got this! I heal up, and eat some spinach and paralyze him with the Glyph! Hah! I throw an Arcane Bolt, he cast Winter's Grasp. I throw a Fire Ball, he resists it. He throws a Fire Ball, I resist it. As I said, he resisted my second Mana Clash... so I throw an Arcane Bolt, then a Stonefist. Both connects, and he is knocked down! Yay! Then we throw another Petrify, which he resists. He tries to do a hex on me which I resist. My Bloody Grasp and my next Fire Ball both connects and he is down to half health! This automatically summons a large Tempest-like lightning storm that lasts a few seconds. I'm out of its range though. I go for another Stonefist and another Fire Ball, and he goes for a paralyze spell again. Luckily I resist it and my final Bloody Graps finishes him off. Then the team can just go after the skeletons who appear on the left, after I chuck a Fire Ball at them. The boss has the Ashen Gloves, another elemental damage focused glove. We loot the rest of the room, there is a gift here for Oghren and the Ancient Elven armor. After that we proceed to the right side, get rid of the skeletons, and jump into the pool. Note that you can avoid the entire boss fight if you just run for the pool and click on it. You will be teleported into the werewolf lair instantly. 13:12:28 THE LAIR Dangerous place. There are a lot of werewolves, and even a new enemy type: Shadow Wolf. Shadow Wolves can use Stealth and they use Overwhelm from it, which is basically inescapable. Pause your team. Place a paralysis rune at the door, so the wolf who runs into it can block the way when it gets paralyzed. Throw a Fire Ball in there so it can flush out some Shadow Wolves from Stealth. Then use Cone of Cold, and Flame Blast and chuck another Fire Ball. Ideally, now you could use Mind Blast to give some time until Cone of Cold recharges, but sadly I got Overwhelmed. So we need the team to help us up. Which they do so pretty competently. Morrigan even heals us back up. We proceed towards the other side of the room, but we avoid the trap in the middle. A few more Fire Ball and Cone of Cold and we are done here. 14:15:45 THE LADY OF THE FOREST We accept her plea and make sure Zathrian comes here. 13:25:50 ZATHRIAN With Mana Clash the fight is laughable. So let's have a laugh. 13:30:13 FIFTEENTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Spider forest. Watch for the Webs. That's pretty much it. 13:32:45 WE GOT THE DALISH! Time to get rid of the junk and return to camp. 13:35:01 TIME TO LOOT THE CAMP, THE FOREST AND THE RUINS WITH LELIANA The looting ends at: 13:43:34. We will engage in some fight with Leliana on board. She is pretty competent now with those dual daggers, because as you saw it, I kept boosting her Dexterity. 13:37:04 ALISTAIR LEVEL 16 Boost only Strength and pick Flurry. 13:39:18 THE ELVEN RITUAL Examine the carvings. Get the jug. Fill it up. Put it on the altar. Pray. Take a sip. Dump the water back into the pool. The door is open. Kill the skeletons, the shades and the angry spirit. Get the Juggernaut Plate. 13:43:34 THIRD BLACK VIAL Yeah, I did it with Leliana. I figured if she gets into trouble I will just Force Field her. She kind of got into trouble, so I did. She actually ended up finishing the thing. But the Revenant was focusing on me the entire time so it was pretty easy. 13:46:01 ELORA'S HALLA This quest needs level 2 Survival skill in order to properly complete it. So we get Sten back and we calm that Halla. 13:48:26 SIXTEENTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Darkspawns vs Elves. We will save the elves. You can start with a Fire Ball on the big group of archers. The Shrieks are very dangerous to the elves, so take them down fast. Heal the elves if they need to or put them into a Force Field. Or you can just focus on the darkspawn and let them die. It's not like there is any penalty for it. I just like to save them. 13:50:41 BOOSTING PARTY APPROVAL Giving gifts and having conversations. Sten reaches Massive Strength bonus, Alistair reaches Massive Constitution bonus. We also equip and level up Oghren. Everything goes on Strength, and we pick up the Champion specialization. We also get the Survival skill and War Cry for him. This will be handy when we reach the Anvil of the Void and we have to use him. THE URN OF SACRED ASHES ----------------------------------------- Let's do this! 14:05:34 ARRIVING TO HAVEN A nice quiet town, with nothing suspicious going on. Or is it like Hackdirt in Oblivion? Yes, it is! So let's look around and get into some trouble! Sten picks a fight with me, but I already gave him his sword, so he backs off. If I would fight with him and put an OTD spell on him, he would die instantly after he joins the squad, and that would fail my little challenge of no one getting knocked out during the playthrough. This is why I did it this way. Can't take any chances. Let's look inside the house on the left and notice the bloody altar. We can trade in the shop before we find the knight's corpse. After that, kill the villagers and let's head into the Chantry! 14:06:54 THE TOUGHEST KID IN THE WORLD A creepy child. No matter what you do, you can't intimidate him. Even with gargantuan Strength and Master Coercion. It is impossible. This might be a glitch. You can persuade him to show you the finger-bone though. 14:12:22 EIRIK AND HIS FLOCK He won't tell you anything no matter what you pick. When they attack, Mana Clash his butt. The rest of the group is just a bunch or normal enemies, so this is not gonna be a problem. Loot Eirik's body to get the amulet. Pick up the gift for Zevran in the left side of the Chantry, and discover the hidden door in the right. Talk to Genetivi. 14:15:23 THE TEMPLE We take a left as soon as the cutscene is over. There is a corpse laying on the floor as we enter the the doorway. Loot it. It is the last piece of the Unbound quest. We can challenge Gaxkang now in Denerim. The little room has a three weak cultists. The bookcase has a gift for Wynne. Up the stairs, archers get Fire Ball, melee Reavers will be dealt with by the team. We can use Cone of Cold to help them out, but the fight is not difficult. 14:18:07 LEVEL 17 As always, everything goes on Magic. We pick up the Glyph of Warding spell. Pretty good defensive spell, but we are after the Repulsion. I'm a bit tired of keep Force Fielding Morrigan. Repulsion can keep her safe from the melee guys. 14:18:26 LEFT SIDE We open the door and a Bronto starts rushing at us. Cone of Cold or Petrify. Or Morrigan can just take over and cast Horror on it. That works too. The archers get Fire Ball. After this, we go solo because we want to trigger the trap and then fire bomb people. I'm already a badass mage, I can handle them alone. Our team would just be in the way in these small spaces. Glyph of Warding is prefect here when they try to mob up on you. We Mana Clash the two mages in the little room, and lure the rest of the cultists out. Cone of Cold, Flame Blast and Fire Ball. They freeze like water and melt like butter. There is a gift for Oghren in the "sermon room" room. The key to the door on the right side of the main entrance, is in the chest inside a small room at 14:21:40. The Armor of Diligence(14:21:51) can be picked up from the Fallen Knight. I ended up having almost the entire set, except the boots. I did not buy it from Owen because I did not want to spend money on it. 14:21:53 BACK IN THE MAIN HALL A new group of enemies will spawn in the main hall. Amongst them, there is a witch who can throw Fire Ball, so let's get rid of her with mana Clash. You can get rid of the rest after the mage is dead. 14:22:37 FORGOTTEN VERSES We pick up the scroll, and we bring it to the girl next to the Chantry in Denerim, right away! Well, you don't actually have to bring it right away, but hey, I want the gold ASAP. We also get rid of some of our junk, because the temple and the caves will have a lot of loot. 14:25:39 DOOR TO THE MAIN HALL A cultist mage stands on top of the stairs, and as we go further two Ash Wraith will spawn behind us. Mana Clash the mage, and get rid of the wraiths. There are two archers on top of the stairs as well. You can light the Brazier if you have the two item required. We have them because we looted everything this far. 14:26:16 ARCHERS IN A ROOM FULL OF TRAPS Fire Ball the archers and make sure you stick to the left side. We don't want to trigger the traps. Not that they are dangerous here at this point, but we want to come back with Leliana and get the xp for disarming them. 14:26:43 OPEN THE DOOR Usually the Ash Wraith summons in the middle of that room and the guards further back as well. Not sure why they were in my face as soon as I opened the door. Anyway, Cone of Cold gets the job done. The Witch who comes from the right side also stays further back, but this time she ran straight at us. Interesting. She was targeting Alistair with a Fire Ball. Obviously we Mana Clash her and get rid of the rest of the guards. This room has the Ancient Elven Gloves in the box. 14:27:33 LEFT SIDE This side has a Witch and two Ash Wraiths. Mana Clash is on cooldown, so we smack her with a Fire Ball. The Ash Wraiths get cold and some shattering. 14:27:42 THE CHESTS Every chest will summon Ash Wraiths. The first summons one, the second two, and the thrid summons three. As long as you don't open all once, you will be fine. Still, when I don't mind my party falling or drinking healing potions, I sometimes open all and use Mana Clash. High risk, but high reward. 14:28:36 MORE GUARDS Not a big deal, especially if Alistair does not run into my Cone of Cold. Sorry! 14:29:18 THE RIGHT SIDE Four Reavers, one Mage. Mana Clash his butt, and get rid of the rest. There is another mage in the next room. Two Ash Wraiths will spawn here as well. You can wait for Mana Clash to recharge or just Fire Ball the old warlock. Cone of Cold is also great. When they don't resist it. 14:30:21 MORRIGAN LEVEL 17 2 Magic, 1 Willpower. Oh wait! I changed my mind! 1 Willpower and 2 Cunning. Yup, we definitely want another tactic slot for her when she gets a skill. We pick up Lifeward. 14:31:25 THE CAVES 3 Ash Wraith is supposed to spawn here, but for some reason they always die and I get the xp for them. This must be some kind of glitch. Anyway, get rid of the Reavers and proceed towards the doorway. There will be two mages on both side of the small room. Mana Clash them. 14:32:15 HOT OR COLD? Well, they get both. Cone of Cold and Flame Blast. Sten and Alistair also got a taste of my flames. Sorry, but you guys just never learn... The dragonlings are easy to get rid of. They don't like cold, so time to cool things down. 14:33:18 BIG HALL WITH THE BUNKBEDS A mage ahead. Mana Clash. There is another a bit further by the table, but that one has not aggroed us yet. Watch for the dragonling spawning behind you. We move forward, Fire Ball the mage and we get rid of him in any way you can. Naturally Morrigan gets swarmed by dragonlings while we are busy fighting with eh guards. We put a Force Field on her and just blast the lizards with Cone of Cold. Morrigan also gets a taste of that freeze, but she is in a Force Field, so no apologies. 14:45:29 ANOTER BIG HALL Two mages, one Mana Clash. Guards are a joke. From this hall, we can go either left or right. First we go right, so we can kill some Drakes for their scales, and get a gift for Alistair. Drakes are mean. They first Roar(Stun), then Shred(knockdown), then immediately Overwhelm if you are on the floor. The best is to not let that happen and blast them with Cone of Cold and Petrify whoever is left out. If it does happen, Force Field the recipient immediately. Their Overwhelm deals a ton of damage and even the War Mage or Sten might not survive it. 14:36:16 STEN LEVEL 16 3 Strength, and we pick up Two-Handed Strength. 14:37:23 THE LEFT SIDE Yet another Witch who begs for Mana Clash. Two Elite Assassin will also charge out of Stealth, so watch for Mark of Death and backstabs. Those girls can be nasty if you are not prepared. 14:37:58 BIG HALL, MORE DRAKES, AND A USELESS MAGE I have no idea where that guy learned how to be an Arcane Warrior, but whatever he learned, it was not much. He must have found a picture about Arcane Warriors and thought it looked cool, so he started calling himself one. Honestly, he sucks! All he does is Dispel your magic, and put on Anti-Magic Ward on himself. Once his mana is depleted, he finally start using his melee weapon. Poorly. Anti-Magic Ward lets him resist my Mana Clash though, so we can't just blast this clown. Sometimes it works if you don't get too close, but this time it did not. Anyway, Alistar will later gets rid of him. Watch for Morrigan here, because she tends to stay behind, and two Drakes will spawn after you got rid of the guards. Put her into a Force Field and get rid of the Drakes with cold. Once again, no apologies Morrigan, you are invulnerable anyway. If the Force Field wears off before the Drakes die, make sure you heal her and Petrify the dragons. The lizards hit very hard and she is fragile. Loot the cultist "Arcane Warrior"(pff), and get his pretty awesome weapon. We won't use it because we are not Arcane Warriors, but it is still awesome to have. 14:39:56 THE EGGS One more Drake, one more Mage. You know what to do. Mana Clash, Cone of Cold. There is also an archer and an Assassin. A dragon egg has the Life Drinker. A completely useless amulet at this point. We also have the six drake scale we need for Wade. 14:41:50 KOLGRIM The mad leader of the Disciples of Andraste. He thinks that the Chantry's prophet, Andraste, has reborn and took the form of a dragon. Yeah, he is smart like that. His shouting also makes him very likable. This is the part where you can give into your crazy, and destroy the Urn, thus unlocking the Reaver specialization(8/12). Or just get rid of this crazy fool, which is what we are gonna do. Note that there is a hilarious banter between Oghren and Kolgrim if you bring the dwarf here. So first off, Mana Clash the two mages at the back of the cave. The fight can get ugly if you don't take them out fast. Kolgrim is a boss, and he hits hard. He ha a bunch of two-handed skills, but most often he sues Sunder Arms and Sunder Armor. He also has two melee guards next to him. When they attack you, quickly use Mind Blast. This gives enough time to cast Glyph of Warding, which will give a nice defense boost to your party. Since he is a boss, Alistair will target him with Punisher, which will knock him on his butt. Even though he is a two-handed warrior, he does not use Indomitable. Petrify, Cone of Cold and Glyph of Paralysis can do wonders here. During my fight he could barely move while Alistair was ripping him to shreds. Sten took care of the other guards. Once Kolgrim is dead, get his axe, the random rune he drops, and his Horn that can summon the dragon. 14:43:36 ALISTAIR LEVEL 17 3 point of Strength, and we pick up Bravery. 14:43:49 TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN Nothing to see here, move along. Don't even think about blowing the horn! Nah, to be honest, we could take down the dragon at this point. There is no way one of our member would not get knocked out though. So we will not risk it, especially since I want to take her down with the full build, and without pause. If you don't care that they can fall, or that you pause during the fight, you can take down the lizard right here. I will just loot the broken chest and proceed to the Gauntlet. I will come back for "Andraste" later. 14:45:15 THE GAUNTLET A quick change in tactics for Sten and Alistair. They are using their Berserk ability a bit too late for my liking. This is because I have been destroying everyone so fast, by the time they get to that tactics option the fight is over. So we move Berserk to the top. Usually it works fine, even if it is at the bottom, but we have a huge DPS with this amount of crowd control, so I want them to use it faster. If you are playing through the game based on this guide, you should set them up like this as soon as they have the Berserk ability. 14:46:15 THE GUARDIAN Talk to him. Whatever you do, don't refuse to answer. That way, you will get an amulet from the person from your origin story. Since we are mages, it's going to be "Jowan". Of course he is not really Jowan, just our perception of him. 14:49:29 THE SPIRITS The riddles are simple. Each time you fail one, you have to fight an Ash Wraith. Here are the solutions: Ealisay: Tune. Lady Vasilia: Vengeance. "I don't know" also works. Disciple Havard: Mountains. Disciple Cathaire: Hunger. "I don't know" also works. Archon Hessarian: Mercy. General Maferath: Jealousy. "I don't know" also works. Thane Shartan: Home. Brona: Dreams. You get the same xp for the good answers as you would get for the killing of the Ash Wraiths, so don't bother failing them. 14:54:32 "JOWAN" He is clueless as always. Just get the amulet. 14:55:23 MIRROR MATCH You have to fight yourself and your team. Luckily, they don't have the same skills and spells, so it is very easy. Alistair got me with his Holy Smite, which took me out of the fight for a few seconds, but after it wore off, we quickly got rid of the impostors. Our team has two mages, so Mana Clash the two clones. Fake Morrigan shifted into her useless spider form and she got killed in a second. Nice. Fake Sten and fake Alistair got absolutely demolished by the real ones. Not sure why, maybe they are simply "built" better. Wink-wink. 14:56:09 FLOOR PUZZLE This one is easy. Just do it the same way you see it in the video. Here is the solution: War Mage goes on the last step on the left side. Morrigan goes on the third step on the left side. Sten goes on the second step on the right side. Alistair moves onto the second platform. Morrigan goes on the fourth step on the right side. Sten goes on the first step on the left side. Alistair moves forward. War Mage goes on the fifth step on the right. Morrigan goes on the second step on the left. Alistair moves forward, steps off the bridge, the bridge turns solid. We can pass. 14:57:19 THE URN The "Pot of holy dirt", according to Sten. Don't just rush ahead though, if you don't want to anger the Guardian! We have to complete the final test first. This will be difficult! First, you have to interact with the altar. Then pick the "remove equipment" option. And there you go! Yup, the only way to impress the guy, is to go nude. And he is right, actually. Nothing makes me feel more "worthy" than standing in my underwear, while an ancient "priest-like figure" is talking to me. After he tells us that he likes what he sees, we can approach the Urn. Yay! Take a pinch and let's get out of here! Genetivi will meet us at the exit and you can tell him the good news. You can also kill him, but we are not gonna do that. Especially because there is a Master Dweomer Rune waiting for us in Denerim, if we visit him again there. 15:01:07 WE HAVE THE STAFF OF THE MAGISTER LORD We have our staff! Finally! This will make us many times more powerful! We have more Spellpower, Willpower, mana regeneration, our basic attack will deal cold damage, and we even have 10% additional spirit and fire damage for our spells. Truly, this is a staff worthy of a War Mage! Only Anduril's Blessing and the First Enchanter's Cowl are missing from our endgame equipment. After our purchase, we go back to camp, give away the gifts we collected, and clear the entire mountain with Leliana. 15:02:34 LOOTING WITH LELIANA After we kill the lonely guard who was left in the village, we loot Haven, the Temple and the Caves. You can skip it here: 15:08:10 15:03:45 CAMP AMBUSH The team gets ambushed by Shrieks in the camp. No one can fall here, so we just have to get rid of them. An elf of Dalish origin would have a unique dialogue here. 15:08:04 LEVEL 18 Everything goes on Magic, we pick Master Combat Training and Glyph of Repulsion. We also go back to camp, sell the junk and give the Locket gift we found to Morrigan and the Antivan Leather Boots to Zevran. Zevran also becomes loyal to us. 15:10:58 STEN LEVEL 17 3 Strength, and we pick up Resilience. 15:11:14 HEALING ARL EAMON The Arl lives! Accepting his gift, will unlock the Champion specialization(9/12) and also gives us a bonus talent/spell. Now, we just need to get the dwarves! 15:16:15 BONUS SPELL Arcane Shield. Not bad(it turns awesome in Awakening), but we are after the Staff Focus passive. After we pick up Arcane Shield, I demonstrate how much our defense will get boosted with the Arcane Shield and Glyph of Warding combination(+60 defense). In case you are wondering what exactly is am I doing at this point. 15:17:21 SEVENTEENTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Darkspawn vs human knights. We will throw a Fire Ball right into the middle of that mess. The knights are good enough to survive that. After this, we mostly let Alistir and Sten to clean up. 15:18:33 WADE AND HIS DRAKE SCALES I don't know what is going on with Wade's brain, but even if I never set foot in this shop, he will say I'm back and I changed my mind about the Drake Scales. Okay... Anyway, lets just give three scales, exit, come back, give the other three, exit, come back, and get the two set of armors. I did not want the better versions(you have to fast travel away from Denerim for that one, you can't just exit and come back), because I will not use them anyway. I just want to sell them. After this, a quick trip into Orzammar to cure the poisoned girl and to get the fourth black vial. We are so powerful now, that things is no challenge at all. We head back to Denerim to get the rune from Genetivi. I forgot to pick it up the last time I was here, so let's get it now. 15:25:35 WE BUY ANOTHER ARCANE TOME The last one. It's all we need now. We pick Staff Focus. NOW WE ARE READY FOR THE DEEP ROADS, AND TO NEVER PAUSE THE GAME AGAIN! THE BUILD IS BASCIALLY DONE! Yeah, we need two more items, but we can manage without them until we get them. Let's go! Sadly, Fire Ball will be mostly ignored after this point, since it is hard to aim with that thing without tactical pause. You served us well Fire Ball! And we will still use you when we need you... Still, since we don't use tactical pause anymore, Friendly Fire will be more common from on. I apologize to my team in advance. PART 3: https://www.strange-and-unusual-pukingking.com/post/dragon-age-origins-war-mage-combat-playthrough-time-stamps-tactics-part-3
- Dragon Age Origins War Mage "Combat-Playthrough": TIME STAMPS/TACTICS PART 1
0:00 INTRO 03:30 CHARACTER CREATION I already have a pre-made face from the Tool Set, so this won't take long. First spells are going to be Flame Blast and Heal. Attributes all go on Magic and the skill will be Coercion. Flame Blast is needed because we want to get to Fire Ball as fast as possible. Heal is for supporting the team and ourselves. We can play a bit more aggressively this way, which is what I'm going for here. 04:02 THE GAME BEGINS 6:50 ENTERING THE FADE Quickly destroying all starter DLC equipment and starting the playthrough. The starter enemies are weak. If we don’t get mobbed up, we will be fine. 13:18 MEETING SLOTH We pick the option to solve the riddle, not to fight. Solutions for the riddle: 1. Map. 2. Tongue. 3. Dream. 18:18 CONFRONTING THE RAGE DEMONS AND "MOUSE" This fight is very simple. We let the bear tank, and we destroy the two Wisps on the right first. This will level us up. Now it we get rid of the last Wisp and concentrate on the Demon. The Rage Demon is immune to fire, so we blast it with Arcane Bolt, and heal ourselves if we need to. THE CIRCLE ------------------ 21:46 BACK IN THE CIRCLE We successfully complete the Harrowing. Now Jowan is nagging us. 23:01 LOOTING THE FLOOR. To skip the looting click here: 24:20 24:20 TALKING TO IRVING, GREGOIR AND DUNCAN We meet the trio, thank Irving his congratulation. 27:33 LOOTING, ESCORTING DUNCAN Skip it here: 27:41 We can talk to Duncan, but we won’t waste time with that now. 27:47 JOWAN REVELS HIS PLANS He tells us that we need to help him escape. We agree. 31:26 GETTING THE ROD OF FIRE I decided to use Coercion to get it from the Old Senior mage in the library. This way Leorah will give you supplies when you do the favor for her. 33:41 GOT THE ROD OF FIRE, TALKING TO LEORAH(ANOTHER SENIOR MAGE) 35:23 LILLY AND JOWAN JOINS Equipping the party, setting up tactics. 36:46 ENTERING THE STORAGE CAVERNS We could have come here alone, but why? It is much faster if you bring the Lilly and Jowan. They can only come if you have the rod, so you need to convince the mage in the library like I did. The spiders are no match for the team. 36:49 LEVEL 2 We reached it earlier, but I level up now. Everything goes on Magic, and pick Mind Blast. 39:11 CAVERNS ARE CLEAR She gives a few potions, because we already have the form signed. I prefer to do it this way. 39:53 IN THE BASEMENT 43:04 LEVEL 3 Everything goes on Magic, pick Coercion level 2 for skill and the Force Field spell. Force Field is needed for many Nightmare tactics. 44:57 USEFUL NIGHTMARE MAGE TACTICS: 1. AGGRO MANAGEMENT We aggro an entire group with Flame Blast, and Force Field yourself. Your team will take care of them. 45:58 USEFUL NIGHTMARE MAGE TACTICS: 2. ISOLATION We are outnumbered. Three guards and a mage who can cast Stonefist and knock us down with serious damage. We Force Field the most dangerous member, in this case the mage, and focus on the rest first. 47:35 WE ARE IN THE VAULT! Our rod got us in… 47:58 FINAL FIGHT OF THE ORIGIN STORY We use Flame Blast, then stun with Mind Blast. That will confuse them! We keep Force Field handy because if the big guy uses Shield Pummel, we need to Force Field yourself ASAP before he lands the final hit. Otherwise we are toast. 49:15 BUSTED! Jowan was clueless. Irving knew everything all along. Now we are in for it! OSTAGAR & KORCARI WILDS ------------------------------------------ 54:17 ARRIVING TO OSTAGAR To skip the royal welcome: 58:16. We talk to a few people, trade and steal a sword from a naïve elf at 59:31. Just follow the elf, use Coercion and get the sword. It's not a great sword but it's better than what Alistair starts with. You can equip it on him when you get it if you want. 1:01:44 TO SKIP THE CHAT WITH LOGHAIN AND GET TO THE POINT WHERE YOU GET YOUR DOG Yeah, we get a puppy, but we won’t use him. 1:03:01 TRADE WITH THE QUARTERMASTER Selling our junk. We can't really buy much here, but get a few Lesser Lyrium Potions and the Backpack. We are going to be chugging Lesser Lyrium Potions. With garbage starting equipment, this is the key to have a proper high Magic build. 1:04:29 ALISTAIR We meet Alistair and we set up his tactics. We will use him the way he is now for a long time. Eventually we will turn him into a double weapon warrior and he will be our main damager. 1:06:41 TALKING TO DUNCAN We need to get some blood, and some long forgotten treaties. So it’s a Tuesday. 1:08:21 SETTING UP TACTICS FOR DAVETH AND JORY Daveth will use archery to keep him at a safe distance, and Jory will be our damager for now. 1:09:30 ENTERING THE WILDS I will not complete the useless Missionary quest, nor the Chasind Signs. I consider them a waste of time, and I want to get to Lothering as fast as possible. I missed the Chasind Flatblade though. That was not intentional, just slipped my mind. Anyway, we won’t need it. 1:09:55 USING NIGHTMARE MAGE TACTICS NUMBER 1. 1:12:33 WHITE FLOWER WITH RED CENTER It’s what we need to cure the dog. I always get it from here, but they are all over the wilds. 1:15:23 LEVEL 4 Everything goes on Magic, pick Flaming Weapons. We are one spell away from Fire Ball. Yay! Flaming Weapons is also very potent later on with a high magic build. 1:15:42 THE EMISSARY - USING NIGHTMARE MAGE TACTICS NUMBER 2. Dangerous enemy. He has Fire Ball, and he retreats into a trap filled area with archers, who fire from an advantageous position. Let not let him do any of that! We Force Field it and let Alistair and Jory knock him down and kill him. 1:17:50 GAZARATH - THE GAME'S FIRT BOSS ENEMY This can be difficult if he spams his Flame Blast on your group(if you do this without wanting to use Healing Potions). Don't let it do that. Don't stay grouped together. Let Alistair and Jory knock it down. Alistair can wear its mana down with his passive skill. We blast it with Arcane Bolt. 1:18:53 USEFUL NIGHTMARE MAGE TACTICS: 3. SOLO FIGHT, SEPARATION We stop our team, and kill a few enemies from a distance. The area ahead has too many enemies, and they have too much dps. If we charge ahead, one of our party member would likely fall without healing potions, so pick down a few of them from afar to even things out. 1:20:40 MEETING MORRIGAN AND FLEMETH, LEAVING THE WILDS Swooping is bad… 1:25:08 GIVING THE FLOWER, SAVING THE DOG'S LIFE AND THE JOINING Now we just have to save his butt from the darkspawn later. 1:32:00 LEVEL 5 The Joining is over and we have 2 talent points to spend. One will be Fire Ball, and the other will be Rock Armor. Fire Ball is insane, it will nuke crowds, and Rock Armor will make us more durable. The attributes are all placed on Magic. We also sell all of our junk, and buy some Lesser Lyrium Potions. 1:40:06 GETTING THROUGH THE BRIDGE The battle has started. Even though we are not in combat yet, we should still avoid the Fire Ball effects that can hit us on the bridge. Just watch them as they fly and hug the left side. 1:40:35 TWO TOWER GUARDS JOIN THE PARTY With Fire Ball, we are good enough to be damagers at this stage. We will use one guard as a tank, the other as a ranged support damager. We make sure that our tank uses Taunt and he is healed. The archer does not need much assistance. 1:42:43 ALISTAIR LEVELS UP We won’t touch him. He is good the way he is for now. 1:46:32 ENTERING THE TOWER OF ISHAL - THE GENLOCK EMISSARY We pause our team and advance towards the pillars. There is a grease trap between the pillars, and the Emissary has a scripted Fire Ball throw, so we won’t rush ahead. We run closer to the left pillar, which will trigger the Emissary's Fire Ball. After this, we go to the left pillar and watch the two archers advance. We stay in their line of sight that way they will stop at the end of the barricade. We Fire Ball them, then move behind the pillar and when they reach us, we finish them off with Flame Blast. We heal up, and stay on the right side of the trap. That way it will not trigger. We Fire Ball the group of archers and stay behind the barricade. Now that the rest of the darkspawn are gone, we let our team rip the Emissary apart, with our help. 1:48:43 WAR MAGE(THIS BUILD) TACTICS NUMBER 1. This will get more effective and more common as we become more durable. We get into the face of the crowd, and use Mind Blast. Retreat and Fire Ball the helpless foes. We let our team mop them up. 1:53:03 OPSIE! Our first big mistake. I did not retreat far enough from the archer volley, and almost got killed. Fortunately I got away with it with an ounce of health. Live and learn. 1:54:00 GENLOCK ALPHA We use the dogs as Alistair suggests. Nuff said. We already won. When we open the door later, enemies will start pouring out. We retreat back to the kennels and the dogs will aggro them. If they kill an enemy, we will still get the xp. 1:56:40 THE TOP OF THE TOWER - THE OGRE BOSS We are at the top and this big ugly thing is in our way. With this mage, there are two easy ways to get rid of him. I show both during the boss fight. Once is to aggro him and let him follow you. You need to stay close to him, but not too close. Your team can just whack him as he runs after you. I find this to be a bit dull tough, so I did the second. The second is what you see at the second part of the fight. Use the Tank Guard and his Taunt(we already set him up to keep taunting) to aggro the Ogre. He will not pay attention to anyone else, because no one can deal enough damage to break the aggro. We Force Field the Tank Guard and keep healing Alistair as he attacks the Ogre from the back. The Ogre has no aggro on Alistair, but he has a massive attack set up if he is attacked from the back. So we heal Alistair, Force Field the Tank and we keep hurting the Ogre with our spells. Once the beast is defeated, strip the guards from all of their equipment (their stuff will not be placed in our inventory automatically unlike with Jowan, Lilly, Daveth and Jory). 2:08:31 FLEMETH'S HUT - LEVEL 6 Flemeth saved us, and we are in this stinky swamp. Let's set up Morrigan's tactics. She only has four slots, so we need to pick the ones that would help us the most. Damage with Winter's Grasp, disabling Elites with Horror, heal herself when below 90% health, and Mind Blast when surrounded. This will do just fine. Vulnerability Hex is also great, but more on that later on. We also level up here. Everything goes on Magic, naturally. We pick Mana Drain. Why? Well, just like with Fire Ball, our goal is to get to the good spells fast. So Mana Clash, here we come! We also pick up the Combat Training skill. We are War Mages after all! 2:12:07 GETTING OUR DOG Smack the group with a Fire Ball and kill the remaining Elite. Child's play. LOTHERING ------------------ 2:14:04 ARRIVING TO LOTHERING The bandits are in our way. We can intimidate them to leave us alone(level 2 Coercion, remember?). Pick the Grey Warden option, because the Mage option does not let you ask for a donation, which is extra gold for us. Ah, let’s run them off for the extra gold! We focus on the leader. If his health reaches zero, the fight ends, and you have the option to chase them away or continue the fight. I chased them off, because I'm with a good character. This is where I actually failed my challenge of not switching to other party members during combat throughout the whole game. I wanted to show the tactics on how to kill the leader the easiest way. Which is basically using with Morrigan's Vulnerability Hex + Mind Blast the crowd and use elemental spells on him. Once I'm in Lothering, I get the quests from the Chanter's Board and other small quests throughout Lothering. 2:21:15 TAVERN BRAWL AND GETTING LELIANA Same as the bandits. Focus on the Elite. If his health goes down the fight ends. Mind Blast the crowd to make it even easier. We take in Leliana, and we also start the Blackstone Irregulars quest line. 2:22:17 EQUIPPING AND SETTING UP TACTICS FOR LELIANA Forget this, we will use Sten. Still, the initial tactics setup is what I would have used for her with a bow. 2:28:50 GETTING STEN Other than Alistair and Morrigan, Sten will be our third major companion. With Leliana, it's easy to convince the Revered Mother to let him go. With a different dialogue option you can also open his cage with Leliana. 2:36:45 EQUIPPING STEN AND SETTING UP HIS TACTICS Sten will be my main tank later on, right now he is good for single target damage. Mostly I need him to be in the way and knock people down who attack me. I set up his tactics at 2:39:11. 2:39:44 KILLING THE BANDIS Follow the tactics you see. This is the easiest way with this build and team. 2:40:36 USEFUL NIGHTMARE MAGE TACTICS: 4. BAITING When our ally, who is ordered to use specific skills when you are targeted, is attacked, attack the enemy who hits them to shift their aggro on you. Sten is set up to knock down anyone who targets me. As you see here, Sten is flanked by a bandit, and I attacked him. The bandit started targeting me, which made Sten use his Pommel Strike on him to knock him down. This not only saves Sten from being flanked, but the bandit also can't reach me. Alistair does the same, as he is set up to use Shield Pummel on anyone who targets me. The bandit has no chance. 2:43:51 USING NIGHTMARE MAGE TACTICS NUMBER 1 AND 3 - AGGRO MANAGEMENT AND SOLO FIGHT, SEPARATION 2:48:45 USING NIGHTMARE MAGE TACTICS NUMBER 1 Spiders are extremely nasty when you are with a mage who has no decent armor. They Web the hell out of you and you are basically paralyzed until you are dead. Aggro them with a Fire Ball and hide in a Force Field. Trust me. This is the only safe way to deal with lots of spiders with a mage Warden if you can't switch off of your main character. 2:50:45 LEVEL 7 We pick the Spirit Healer specialization, because it is the most useful spec for our War Mage. We also put our advance towards Mana Clash on hold to get Group Heal from our new specialization. This is going to be our only specialization. We save the other two options for Awakening when we get there. Then we go to the camp. AFTER LOTHERING ---------------------------- Now we are going to focus on gaining experience by completing quests and fighting. Good coin in it too. We also go after our first item on our list for the build: The Reaper's Vestments. We will visit all major places but we won't really start the major quests yet. We complete the DLCs first. 2:55:36 BODAHN AND SANDAL If this would be my first playthrough, I could buy the Ranger specialization here.(1/12) 2:59:24 DENERIM 2:59:37 MAGE'S COLLECITVE QUESTILNE START 3:01:32 STARTING SERGANT KYLON'S QUESTS 3:03:53 TAVERN QUESTS PICKUP 3:04:39 SER LANDRY He is insisting on dying. What can I do? Fire Ball knock him down, Mind Blast stuns him and Flame Blast and Arcane Bolt damages him. The key is to stay away from his Shield Bash and Shield Pummel. 3:06:20 THE WONDERS OF THEDAS If this would be my first playthrough, I could buy the tome for the Spirit Healer Specialization here.(2/12) 3:06:26 ALISTAIR LEVELS UP AGAIN. We won't touch him. He has a long way to go to be the badass we want him to be. 3:08:10 INTIMIDATING THE WHITE FALCONS I should have kicked their butt. Then you can order them to empty their pockets. Slipped my mind. We also pick up one of the dead bodies from the tavern quest, and we kill Paedan. We use Fire Ball, Flame Blast then Mind Blast. They might look though, but they fall pretty fast. 3:10:21 MORRIGAN LEVEL 8 We pick Heroic Offense. She will never use it, but we need to get to Haste ASAP. She also can't keep chugging Lesser Lyrium Potions because we can’t switch on her, so we put 2 attributes on Magic and 1 on Willpower. 3:11:11 WHITE FALCON AMBUSH This can be a tough fight early on, but the falcons are going to be busy fighting the guards first. We use Fire Ball and Flame Blast. Don't bother about the guards, who cares if they catch friendly fire. Sten came pretty close to falling here, I probably should not have put myself into a Force Filed that soon. I should have healed him first. Live and learn. After this, we will clear out the first back alley and go back to the Market where we pick up another dead body and talk to Kylon again. 3:15:56 CRIMSON OARS We can convince them to leave with level 2 Coercion, but why? We throw one Fire Ball on the right side, then get around them and give them more flames. Mind Blast, Arcane Bolt, and the fight is over. After this we talk to Kylon, get paid and we pick up the last dead body. We dump all of them and get paid. 3:19:36 FIRST RANDOM ENCOUNTER Aside from the dog of course. The "Have you seen me?" quest for the Collective. The boss level Abomination is actually pretty easy to get rid of. He is weak to everything we have: Horror from Morrigan, knock down from Sten and Alistair. He is also not good at hitting anything. 3:21:07 STEN LEVEL 8 1 point into constitution, 2 on Strength. The skill will be Bravery. After this we will catch the first thief for the Blackstone Irregulars. Sorry Alistair, I really wanted to throw that Fire Ball. 3:24:26 BACK IN THE TOWER... We won't start the quest yet. We need their infinite supply of Lyrium dust, to make Lesser Lyrium Potions. The Tavern in Denerim has infinite flasks for the cheapest price. 3:28:34 SECOND RANDOM ENCOUNTER Again, for the Guild. "Careless Accusations". Kill them or intimidate them. The group is not really dangerous, so just kill them and give the ring of the leader to Alistair. 3:31:44 CLEARING THE SECOND ALLEY We have Fire Ball. Need I say more? 3:33:29 CATHCING THE SECOND THIEF FOR THE IRREGULARS Sorry Morrigan. You were in the way. After this we clear out the last alley and mark the last Blood Mage's house for the Guild. We also turn in all the completed quests at the Market and find the first and second fired apprentice for the Guild. 3:37:48 VISITING GENETIVI We won't do the quest yet. We just kick "Weylon's" butt. And read some books. The fake Weylon can be dangerous at this level, because he can throw Fire Ball. Make sure you use Mind Blast on him first. 3:41:09 BUYING OUR FIRST ARCANE TOME It's Mana Cleanse. We need it to get to Mana Clash, and we will chuck it out from our bar instantly. 3:46:14 THIRD RANDOM ENCOUNTER AND LEVEL UP Pretty nasty encounter. Tons of traps everywhere, and the mage can have some disgusting spells. We pause the team, and Fire Ball the group. This knocks down everyone, including the mage, which is what we want. He needs to die fast. We use Arcane Bolt and our staff to finish him off. There are melee darkspawn behind us as well, so we watch for them. The archers can be purged with an additional Fire Ball, and Morrigan can disable the Elite Hurlock with Horror. I levelled up here: 3:49:30. Magic, magic, magic. We also have Spellmight now. Great! STONE PRISONER DLC --------------------------------- 3:51:33 TIME TO GET SHALE It's not like we are going to use her... But Honnleath is a pretty good place to gain xp when you are low level. The fights are not that dangerous. At least nothing a Fire Ball can't solve anyway. 3:55:11 ALISTAIR LEVELS UP Hands off! 3:57:01 GENLOCK EMISSARY IN HONNLEATH This far everything should have been easy. But this is a pretty tricky fight. The Emissary has a lot of ugly spells like Curse of Mortality, which can ruin anyone's day. Especially mine, since I go after not letting anyone fall in battle. We stop our team, run up, Fire Ball the group and lure them down where our team stays. This way the archers above can't hit you while you are finishing off the melee guys. Morrigan will run to the Emissary to cast Horror, so we watch her closely. He cast Curse of Mortality on Morrigan, so naturally we Force Field her ASAP. We let Alistair and Sten handle the rest of the group while we go after the Emissary, who will target Morrigan. This is kind of a reverse TACTIC NUMBER 1. Very useful. 4:04:04 THE PUZZLE I hate this puzzle. Don't worry I sped the thing up for you. Basically create a path to the other side by moving the arrows the right way. 4:05:18 THE "KITTY" FIGHT + MORRIGAN LEVEL 9 This can be nasty. Lots of fire damage can happen here, because the Rage Demons start throwing Fire Bolt and Flame Blast at us. Well... we throw a Fire Ball! Yes, they are immune to fire(even Kitty), but they still get knocked down from it. We make sure we kill Kitty fast, because her Cursed Dance can prevent healing for melee characters. Morrigan would suffer penalty to resistances, which is also lethal with this much fire damage around. The good thing is that these demons are pretty squishy, so it should not be that hard to kill them. Loot Kitty, and give the helm to Sten. For now. The belt is for the Warden. Morrigan: 3 points on Magic and get Heroic Aura. We also pick up Expert Herbalism for her. 4:14:04 FOURTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER + STEN LEVEL 9 Blight Wolves and Bereskarn. Not too difficult encounter, but make the wolves Shred ability can add up to a pretty ugly OTD, so make sure you watch Morrigan. Sten: Everything on Strength, pick Combat Tactics, and Stunning Blows. RETURN TO OSTAGAR DLC --------------------- 4:15:09 WE ARE BACK... It is very risky to come here early on(especially with the challenges), but we want to get Cailan's nice armor for Sten, and Maric's Sword for Alistair, so we need to be brave! With good tactics, we can prevail. Plus that staff in that chest we left here, is a huge improvement over our current one. 4:15:36 USING NIGHTMARE MAGE TACTICS NUMBER 3. We solo here a bit. Too many of them and the Emissary is nasty. Get rid of a few with Fire Ball and lure the rest into your team's arms. After the melee guys are done, the Emissary is left with three archers. They all surround him now. Yet another opportunity to use Fire Ball! Once the Emissary is knocked down we send our guys on him. The archers can be dealt with after. 4:17:04 CAILAN'S GREAVES AND THE JOINING CHALICE We give the boots to Sten, and the chalice to Alistair. 4:17:47 THE OSTAGAR CAMP FIGHT Way too many darkspawn for us to charge in with our team. There is also the Forgemaster. Back to solo tactics and separation. Fire Ball, as always, is great here. Then we lead them into our team. 4:20:40 OPEN THE MAGE CHEST Finally we switch out staff. Nice improvement. 4:22:15 DOUBLE GROUP AMBUSH Tough fight. I admit, it is pure luck that Morrigan did not go down here. I told you I had a few close calls! I was tired and I did not watch her properly. Once you reach a point where the Blight Wolves spawn, a different group with a Hurlock Elite will appear. Blast the dogs with Fire Ball and run back to your team. At this level, this is pretty tough, because you will be outnumbered instantly. And when Morrigan puts Horror on the Elite, she aggroes everyone, so she takes damage and almost falls. The fact that Sten and Alistair left her by herself also did not help. Make sure you put her into a Force Filed sooner than I did. She was at 3 health. 4:23:43 WE HAVE THE SWORD Alistair Papa's Got A Brand New Brand! 4:27:03 AFTER CAILAN'S BODY This fight can be extremely dangerous. Not only you are severely outnumbered, but the Skeleton Elite Mage has Paralyze, Fireball and Chain Lightning. Once you get Paralyzed, you are as good as dead. Fire Ball can also wipe out your team, especially if you get knocked down with all the enemies around. So your priority is to take out that mage immediately. Send a Fire Ball at it to knock it down, then order the rest of your team to attack it. Once it is gone, the rest is easier. 4:28:28 DARKSPAWNS, TRAPS AND BALLISTAS AND LEVEL 9 Yet another very dangerous place. Don't even think about getting your team and rush ahead. We use solo tactics, and we thin the herd from afar. The Emissary who comes from the left side and hold Cailan's Gloves, has Curse of Mortality and potentially Crushing Prison. Alistair was on the receiving end this time, so I placed him into a Force Field. With Sten, we managed to kill the mage. Equip the gloves on Sten. We also level up at 4:32:19. We pick up Mana Clash. This will make encounters with mages much easier. As always, we boost Magic and we also pick Improved Combat training. We can also leave the area here, if we want to restock or if you find the place is too difficult. I finish what I started though, so I go nowhere. 4;38:12 ALISTAIR LEVELS UP AGAIN We still won't touch him. 4:39:44 THE NUG CRUSHER Sten's new, and final weapon. It gives 100 stamina. It will stay with Sten until the end. 4:42:32 CORRUPTED SPIDERS As I said, spiders are the bane of every low level mage with bad equipment. The tactics you see here are okay, but it is actually better to use Force Field after the second group appears. That way even if they Web you, you will not be harmed, unlike I was. 4:44:44 THE FINAL FIGHT This is actually child's play compared to what we went through this far. Just focus on the Necromancer while your team holds the rest of them off. He resists my Mana Clash here, but take him out ASAP, because if he dies, the rest of the group will die as well. Including the Ogre boss. We loot Cailan's Helm and Duncan's Weapons. Put the helm on Sten to complete the set, and give the Helm of Honnleath to Alistair. We finished the dlc. 4:48:33 FIFTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Old Tegrim. Merchant with some good stuff. We will bump into him quite a few times throughout the playthrough. I will not list him anymore as random encounter. 4:50:54 ARRIVING IN THE DALISH CAMP We won't do the main quest yet, but we will trade and do some side quests here. I also loot the entire camp, except the locked chests. Skip it here: 4:55:47. 5:01:50 SIXTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER The hungry bandit... Just leave. I don't kill idiots, especially with a good character. 5:02:10 THE BOUNTY HUNTERS This is one of the toughest fight in the game according to many. Well, not with this mage. With Mana Clash and Fire Ball this is super easy. Throw a Fire Ball at the crowd and kill the mage with Mana Clash. This time she also threw a Fire Ball at us, but we are tough enough to tank it, especially with Group Heal. Mop up the rest of the enemies. 5:03:55 MORRIGAN LEVEL 10 1 point into Magic, 2 into Willpower. The spell is Heroic Defense. We are one spell away from Haste! After this, we also catch the third thief from the Irregulars quest. 5:07:55 ENTERING ORZAMMAR 5:10:27 CODEX PICKING AND MINOR TRADING IN ORZAMMAR (TO SKIP ALL OF IT TO THE FIRST COMBAT: 5:29:47) Here we will do a whole bunch of non-combat related things. 5:11:25 Unbound quest first part. 5:12:42 Dagna. 5:15:07 Unlocking the Shapeshifter spec(3/12), giving the Mirror to Morrigan. You need to ask Morrigan about this before her approval gets high due to a bug. Otherwise she will not teach it to you. We will also go after the Key to the City by picking up codex entries, entering the Assembly(5:18:50) and talk to Lord Harramont's second(5:21:12). We will side with him. Screw Behlen. For us to get the Key to the City, we need the Proving doors to be unlocked, so we have to talk to Dulin no matter what. Otherwise we can only get into that part if we finish the first task for either candidate. We also visit the Shaper: 5:22:42. Talking to Orta: 5:23:22. Catching Nugs: 5:27:37. Dealing with the carta enforcers(the best option is to intimidate them, otherwise the shop will close): 5:26:05. 5:24:29 STEN LEVEL 10 Everything goes on Strength and we pick up Critical Strike. We set it up so he would use it on Elite or higher ranked enemies. 5:29:47 ROBBING ATTEMPT BY THUGS We also pick up the last notes for the Key to the City and catch the thief who stole from the Shaper. 5:32:17 WE GOT THE KEY TO THE CITY 5:32:26 GETTING THE AGELESS FROM THE HIDDEN DRAGON Boss level dragon. A good tactic is to let Morrigan Horror him, and then Force Field Morrigan. The dragon will aggro her and you can kill him easily. Sadly, he managed to stun me before I could put the Force Field so Morrigan almost fell. The dragon has a pretty nasty Rake + Overwhelm combo, and if he uses it on Morrigan, she can die very fast. So do what I did. Force Field her when this happens. After this Morrigan will just tank the damage and the rest of the team can kill the male dragon. Loot the Ageless. It will be Oghren's weapon. 5:25:59 CONVINCING BAIZYL AND GWIDDON TO FIGHT Do it the way I did. There is 15 gold in it for you! A bit morally questionable, but hey, we need the gold and as a noble he won't miss it anyway. 5:39:48 STARTING THE PROVING Seweryn. A joke. Don't let him stun you though. Myaja and Lucjan. Their tactics are basically this: the girl tanks the damage and stuns you while the guy uses Stealth and gt around you to backstab you. Just don't get stunned, or kill Lucjan before you get stunned. Otherwise it's child's play. Silent Sister. A bad joke. Just kill her. Paired combat. I need no second. It is the same as Myaja and Lucjan but they are tougher with better armor. Iwo is the tank and Velanz is the damager. Two Fire Balls will fix them. Championship fight, Piotin. Now this can get ugly. Piotin is a boss, and has Final Blow which can kill everyone in your team with one hit at this level. Especially Morrigan. Their team also has an Elite Champion with War Cry boosted by Supremacy to knock everyone down and apply attack penalty. One archer and one more melee guy with dual weapons. We start with Fire Ball to damage and knock everyone down. Piotin attacks me instantly, which is not good, so I Mind Blast him to get the aggro off. Then I retreat. Sten is a much better target for him. Once the dual weapon guy is down, Piotin will be locked into a Force Field so he can rest there until we get rid of the rest of the team. The main target is the Champion. Morrigan gets him off of Alistair, but now he targets her. Morrigan is always gonna be very squishy, so watch for her. If she pulls too much aggro, Mind Blast is a life saver, which is why we set it up for her when she gets attacked by melee. Piotin is a real killer. He can take down half of even Alistair's health with one Mighty Blow. Not only that, he is a boss, so stun effects will last only for a moment on him, and being a dwarf boss, he has good magic resistance. Once he is the only one left, lock Morrigan into a Force Field(for me it was just in time, because Piotin was executing a Final Blow on her) and heal the rest of your team as they beat him. 5:50:25 BACK TO DULIN We turn the quest in for the huge xp reward. We level up after we meet Harrowmont at 5:52:40. We pick Stone Fist. Great knock down spell! 5:53:16 KILLING THE THUGS WHO HAVE THE SHAPER'S TOME I was a bad boy here. I sold it. Well, I need those coins! No one will stop the blight if I don't have my equipment, so it was for a good cause, right? I also distributed my attribute points here. I picked Willpower this time for all three. We are casters so we can put three here. However, we can also just keep sticking to magic. It's up to you. 5:55:10 STEN GIVES US HIS QUEST SOLDIER'S PEAK DLC ------------------ 5:57:38 START 5:59:23 FIRST FIGHT The fight is three waves of enemies. Corpses and skeletons. Cold and nature damage is not effective on them, but fire is. Overall, it is a pretty easy fight. Take out the healer mage who spawns with the second wave fast with Mana Clash. The third wave has an elite skeleton with a unique crossbow. Not a challenge, so just kill it and get its crossbow. Alistair levels up here. Again, we won't touch him. The Ancient History side quest starts here: 6:01:26. Three more items to be examined to get the secret stash. 6:01:39 ARCANE HORROR AND RAGE DEMONS Mana Clash. This applies to almost all of the fights here with demons. At 6:02:04 we unlock Alistair's Master Combat training and Combat Tactics skills. 6:03:34 SECOND OBJECT FOR ANCIENT HISTORY 6:06:06 ABOMINATION BOSS FIGHT Tough fight if done wrong. The Abomination boss keeps getting healed by the corpses, so you need to get rid of them first. However, there will be another group of corpses who will spawn and heals the Abomination again. Later on Rage Demons will appear who will throw nasty fire spells on you. Both group of corpses can be taken out with a single Fire Ball at this level. The Rage Demons will throw Fire Ball, so be careful and keep Group Heal handy. Once only the Rage Demons and the boss remains, you can use Mana Clash to deal massive damage to everyone. Killing the boss without its minions will be easy now. The boss drops Winter's Breath, which is going to be a great staff for Morrigan. It would be good for us too, but I give it to Morrigan because she has Winter's Grasp. She needs a few more points into Magic to equip it though. 6:08:43 THIRD OBJECT FOR ANCIENT HISTORY After that we talk to Sofia. We will deal with her, because this is the most profitable way to handle things. Of course we will betray her at the end, but still. We are allies for now. 6:11:25 DRINK THE VIAL Yes, we will drink it. It gives two good spells, so why not? 6:13:11 WE KILL AVERNUS & MORRIGAN LEVEL 11 Let's not waste any time. Mana Clash and Arcane Bolt will get rid of him quickly. If not enough, give a jab with Stonefist, which will knock him out. Permanently. Morrigan wanted to cast Horror on her so she ran into a magic trap, so I had to make sure she is safe while being paralyzed. The melee corpses don't pose much threat, but the archers can hurt a bit. When the fight is over, we loot Avernus and get his robes. This is our new robe. 6:14:11 is where the last object is found for the Ancient History quest. After we leave the tower, Morrigan will pick up Haste. Her attributes will go on Magic and she can equip the new staff now. 6:15:34 THE DEMON GAUNTLET The first wave is going to be three Rage Demons. Smack them with a Fire Ball! Yes, they are immune to it, but they will still get knocked down! This prevents them to throw their own spells and the team can quickly get rid of them. The second wave will be four Shades. Just kill them, they are not that dangerous. Third wave. Two Rage Demons and two Ash Wraiths. Use the Mana Clash we have been saving up for this wave! The Ash Wraiths can be nasty with their Whirlwind skill. I placed myself into a Force Field after Mana Clash aggroed them. Fourth wave. Desire Demon boss. She has Cone of Cold(freeze), Weakness(-10 defense, -10 attack), Winter's Grasp(cold damage, chance to freeze), Scream(damage+stun) and Cursed Dance(-20 resistances for females and knockdown, no healing, spirit damage and sleep for males). Honestly, she is not that challenging for a team of four. Mana Clash can get rid of her easily, but she resisted my spell so we did it the hard way. 6:18:58 WE KILL SOFIA You did not think I will just let "her" go, right? Nah, we take that sweet Warden Commander Armor and that 8 gold from the hidden stash(6:20:38)! Yay! The armor goes on Alistair later on. We also finish the Ancient History quest at 6:20:46 and claim the rewards. 6:22:52 STEN LEVEL 11 Everything on Strength and we get Shattering Blows. 6:24:30 SIGN OF PASSAGE QUEST A pain in the butt! I forgot about this quest. I need a low tier bow to complete it because I'm a mage. Sadly there is none, so I had to look everywhere to find one. I found one in Lothering eventually. We also open every locked chest with Leliana in Lothering for the xp and the loot. I also picked up Trap Making for her since I won't use her in this playthrough, so this lets me complete Alison's quest. You can skip this search: 6:25:57. 6:28:19 ENTERING THE BERCILLIAN FOREST Wolves and Werewolves. Quite a few of them. You can fight this the same way the 300 fought with the Persians. The little bridge is a perfect place to group them together, this way they can't outnumber your squad. 6:29:55 MY LITTLE ARROW We kill the Denerim mercenaries for the tavern quest. The fight is easy. Finding the bow was more difficult... 6:31:30 FIRST DENERIM RANDOM ENCOUNTER My team will sit this one out. Easy fight with Fire Ball and Flame Blast. The archers are super weak, they melt like butter. 6:33:01 THE BLOOD MAGE DEN Very dangerous place! I came here because I already know the place inside out and I want my Alistair to reach level 12 already. The enemies are tough, there are lots of traps Elites and of course Blood Mages. The first area has one Blood Mage who always starts with Winter's Grasp. It has a pretty good chance to freeze you with low physical resistance, which is what happened to me. Once you get out of the freeze, Fire Ball the room and Mana Clash the guy. 6:34:03 LEVEL 11 Everything goes on Magic, obviously. We pick up Earthquake. We won't use it, but we need it to get to Petrify. Petrify will make boss fights a whole lot easier. 6:34:25 THE BIG ROOM This room has a lot of guards. It's best if we zoom out and smack them with a Fire Ball without entering, then let them pour into the small room we are in. At 6:35:24, we will lure most of the guards away from the Blood Mage who is upstairs. We definitely won't just rush into the archers’ arrows and the fire trap. Fire Ball is, once again, extremely useful here. After the guards on the lower level are dealt with, we rush through the fire trap after we place our team into cover. We Mana Clash the blood mage upstairs and smack the group with a Fire Ball. Then we let our team join in and kill the rest. 6:37:28 CORRIDORS There is a trap right in front of the door ahead. Let's trigger it and run back to the door. This will cause the enemies to pour out from the room. The two mage gets Mana Clash, the rest will be killed by our team. 6:38:25 TRAP! Morrigan will trigger it later and I even have to Force Field her. Nice job girl... The three enemies are easy to deal with. To end the Force Field effect, I start a conversation with Morrigan, and she gives me her quest at 6:39:33. 6:40:27 THE FLOOR IS GREASY It's a grease trap. The mage can throw Fire Ball, which will result in a combo and a lot of fire damage. Let's avoid that. Let's smack the group with Fire Ball and let the puppies run after us, while we retreat to our party. I also tried to Mana Clash the mage, but the little bastard resisted it. After we kill the dogs, let's send another Fire Ball at the archers and that mage. He resists my Fire Ball! Ah well, my second Mana Clash gets him anyway. Then both archers resist my Flame Blast. Ugh. 6:42:37 THE DOOR OF HORRORS The next room is insane. The hardest part of this quest. Yes, harder than the boss fight! If you plan to keep everyone alive, do as I say, please. The room has three Elite Blood Mages, positioned far away from each other. So Mana Clash can only get one. There is no option to use Mana Clash from the zoomed out view. Stay at the last door, where I say. Open the door and pause. At this point we can get one mage with Mana Clash. Let's fall back and put our team into cover from the two other mages. Let the warriors and rogues come to us. It is very likely that the second mage will advance towards us until we will be in his line of sight. He has Vulnerability Hex and Winter's Grasp, so he can hurt us pretty bad. If we get out of his line of sight, he will advance further, which is what we need. When he reaches the door on the side, we can send our team on him. Now with only one mage left in the room, we send our team in and quickly get rid of him with Mana Clash. The remaining guards require no further tactics. Just kill them. 6:24:25 THE FINAL ROOM AND THE BLOOD MAGE BOSS FIGHT Pretty easy. Mana Clash on the boss, this will sap his mana and leaves him with half health. The Elite mage right next to the boss will get instantly killed by the same Mana Clash. Sten can take care of the rest of the guards, while Morrigan and Alistair can help taking down the remaining health of the boss. Keep knocking him down and stunning him, because he can use Blood Magic and potentially Blood Wound. 6:49:54 THE LAST APPRENTICE FOR THE GUILD QUEST 6:50:55 FIRST FALSE WITNESS(FALSE WITNESSES TAVERN QUEST) 6:51:47 SEVENTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Starmetal. I never gave the metal to Levi's brother. I completely forgot about it. Ah, I would have sold the sword anyway. I don't really like Starfang. 6:52:21 SECOND FALSE WITNESS(FALSE WITNESSES TAVERN QUEST) 6:52:53 SCAVENGER We are progressing in Sten's quest. We also question Faryn at 6:52:59. Without Sten of course! Otherwise we won't get the 3 gold. 6:55:07 THE LAST WITNESS(FALSE WITNESSES TAVERN QUEST) 6:56:02 HARSH DESCISION We pick up the last tavern quest for "R". This will disable Untraceable, but I don't really care. The reward for it is lame, and finding 10 Garnet is a pain. Let's just kill "K" and get it over with. 6:56:12 SECOND DENERIM RANDOM ENCOUNTER Not so random. It's part of the Harsh Decision quest. Lots of enemies, but they are weak. Fire Ball, Flame Blast... you know the drill. Don't leave without looting the location of the hideout. 6:57:27 THE HIDEOUT OF "K" Boss fight. The guy is good. He is an Assassin and he has a lot of health. The second he puts Mark of Death on Morrigan she goes in a Force Field. She is in the biggest danger when it comes to Assassins. The others in the room are also rogues, so they can backstab. Be careful and don't turn your back on them. Generally it is good to get rid of the minions first, but here, you have to pay close attention to the boss. Otherwise if he targets Morrigan, she will fall in a second. 6:59:53 WE HAVE THE REAPER'S VESTMENTS We have the money! Now we are not that squishy anymore. We can be more aggressive in combat without the fear of dying in seconds. Our War Mage is getting ready! Yay! 7:00:39 EIGHT RANDOM ENCOUNTER Wolves. A whole pack. Lots of traps as well. It is best to stay put. Don't advance forward, because you or your team will step on them. The wolves can Shred(OTD) and Overwhelm(pinned down and continuous damage). Heal the team when needed and use fire to kill the dogs. Mind Blast is great for stunning the pack. They don't have a lot of health, so they are not difficult to take down. Hug the left side of the road to leave without stepping into a trap. 7:01:45 REFUGEES Annoying side quest for the Chanter's Board. The refugees are weak and they fall fast, but we want to keep at least a few alive, right? The Emissary boss is tough and Mana Clash will not finish him off. First, let's throw a Fire Ball into the crowd ahead of us. Then Mana Clash the Emissary so he can't throw Fire Ball at us. We will also keep him knocked down as much as we can with Stone Fist. I threw another Fire Ball and hid in a Force Field. Most of the darkspawn are now dead, and I try to heal a refugee, but fail. We kept two alive. Better than nothing I guess. 7:03:41 MORRIGAN LEVEL 12 2 on Magic, 1 on Willpower and Expert Combat Training. At this point I also picked up Rock Armor for her, although I ended up not making her use it. This is because I wanted her to have a bigger mana pool. A few points in armor won't save her when she is surrounded, but a Mind Blast can. If you feel like she is too squishy, you can set up Rock Armor for her. 7:04:49 PROVNG ARENA FIGHTS AND STEN LEVELS UP Ugh. Big mistake. These fights are tough, and I though we are ready for them. I though this way I can level up Alistair. We were not ready. Still I made it through, but... ugh! I'm not proud of this one. First fight. Nothing special. Other than 3 massive armor having dwarves and a healer mage. All of them are Elites! The mages gets blasted with my Mana Clash, but the rest are tough and they resist spells consistently. Second fight. I made a mistake. A big one. I started the fight without resting. This is not like the normal Proving, where you get healed and you get all your mana back. I started the fight with the same amount of mana and stamina I had when I finished the first one. Oh God... Pretty nasty bunch! Two with a shield, one with a crossbow and one with two weapons. One is a Champion with War Cry. The archer has Scattershot. We got both, right after the other. Alistair got thoroughly trounced, but I managed to save him with a Force Field. Sten gets 3 Strength, Survival and Death Blow. Third fight. I triggered this fight early as well. Figured you guys would be bored if I would just stand around longer... I did not realize I could speed up the footage later on. I need those eye rolling emojis here. Well, as the guy said, this will be difficult. One mage, two heavy two-hander and an archer. I tried to nuke the mage with Mana Clash but he casts Anti-Magic Ward faster. Then he Dispels Morrigan's Haste, which slows my warriors down. Great. Then that unexpected Scattershot almost kills me. Marvelous! No matter, I retaliate with a Fire Ball on that archer, then I lock my Sten into a Force Field. Time to turn this around! A Group Heal gets us back on our feet and Morrigan kills the archer. After that the heavy gets killed by Alistair, but Sten still smacks him into another dimension with his Mighty Blow. Fourth fight. Honestly, it is a joke compared to what we went through before. Especially since after those two, I said sod it. I will regenerate no matter how boring it is to look at me waiting around. Well, this what I call a fight! Mana Clash works like a charm on the mage, the enemies actually focus on my tank, and we kick everyone butt. Well done. Give me that ring! Alistair is still not at level 12 though. 7:13:33 BEHLEN FANATICS Honestly, after that Proving fight, it is refreshing to fight these fanatics. Yes, they all wear heavy armor, but none of them are Elites. And they burn like marshmallows. Alistair also gets a taste of my magic. Sorry, future king of Ferelden. 7:14:43 ZERLINDA At this point, we just hunt for quests so Alistair can reach level 12 already. We complete Zerlinda's Woe and The Chant in the Deeps(7:16:46). We also pick up A Mother's Hope at 7:22:11. 7:23:44 NINTH RANDOM ENCOUNTER Bandit ambush in the forest. Fire Ball the archers and let your team handle the melee guys. They are not that tough. Don't forget to heal yourself. Fire Ball draws a lot of aggro. 7:25:29 SWIFTRUNNER FIRST ENCOUNTER WE meet the commander of the Werewolves. Bring his health down to its half. The fight stops after that. 7:27:21 DEYGAN Bring him back to the camp. Be a good boy. He will give you a gem. Accept it. We need the money. 7:29:02 LEVEL 12 Boost Magic. We pick Expert Combat Training and now we have Petrify. We can start shattering and turning bosses into stone. 7:31:05 RARE IRONBARK LOCATION 7:32:22 SYLVANS Roots are nasty. Don't trigger more than two Sylvans at once, otherwise you can kiss Morrigan goodbye. They burn like firewood though! 7:34:11 GRAND OAK I decided to help him and kill the Hermit. The crazy mage has some good stuff on him, gives good xp, plus he is a good challenge! Oh, who am I kidding, I have Mana Clash! 7:36:47 ABANDONED CAMPSITE This is very simple. As soon as you arrive and you see the first cutscene, try to leave immediately. Let the cutscene play and fight the shade. Get the gift for Zevran from the box and the Dusk Ring. 7:39:28 SYLVAN TRIO Don't rush, remember you cant trigger three at once. Petrify and Stonefist one. Now you can wake the rest. 7:40:44 FINALLY ALISTAIR REACHES LEVEL 12! Let's get out of this forest and turn him into a badass damager! 7:41:06 DANYLA Do what she asks. Kill her. It's the right thing to do. Plus we need the xp. 7:45:10 BEARS!!! Tough fight. Bears like to spam Slam with their Rage activated. That is a lot of damage. Once again, Morrigan was a bit too close to end up on the floor. 7:48:10 TIME TO LEVEL UP AND EQUIP ALISTAIR Dual. Weapon. Alistair. Yay! There is no one like him, when it comes to damage. Put enough points into Dexterity to reach 36(that is 19 at this point). The rest will go on Strength from now on. Get Dual weapon Training, Finesse, Expert and Master. Now he can wield two full-sized weapons. Also, get Dual Striking, Riposte, Cripple, and Punisher. Now he will not only deal insane damage, but he can use stun and knockdown just like before! We give him a few items to boost his Strength temporarily, so he can equip the Warden Commander Armor. We also give him Duncan's Sword so he can dual-wield it with Maric's Blade. We also set up his tactics. 7:50:51 BOOSTING ALISTAIR'S APPROVAL AND UNLOCKING THE TEMPLAR SPECIALIZATION(4/12) 7:54:31 BOOSTING LELIANA'S APPROVAL AND UNLOCKING THE BARD SPECIALIZATION(5/12) BROKEN CIRCLE ------------------------ 8:00:47 ENTERING THE TOWER First I loot, and gather some of the writings of the apprentices. 8:01:11 WYNNE We will switch Sten to Wynne for this quest. I could have switched Morrigan, but I decided that we will be better off this way. Wynne and her healing spells are gonna be very handy. Alistair can truly let himself go. We set up her tactics, and start advancing further into the tower. The first enemies are Abominations. They are ripped apart quickly by Alistair and me. 8:06:42 THE FIRST BIG GROUP See, this is why we wanted Mana Clash. There is really no need for me to comment on any of the following fights with demons and mages, because all I will do is nuke them with Mana Clash basically. You can do the same. 8:07:21 FIRST MYSTICAL PLACE OF POWER(PLACES OF POWER FOR THE GUILD) 8:12:27 THE CHAPEL Bah! There is a black vial here, which I did not pick up! I figured I will come back for it when I loot the tower with Leliana, after the quest is done. Yet, when I came back, I forgot about it. 8:12:31 IRVING'S ROOM On the table the Red Jenny box and in the fancy chest, Morrigan's book. 8:12:43 UNDEAD AND ARCANE HORROR This fight can be tricky, because the Arcane Horror who spawns can surprise you while you are dealing with the corpses. Make sure you blast it with Mana Clash, or if it resists it, use Petrify or Stonefist. It should not be allowed to cast spells. 8:13:54 GETTING YUSARIS My favorite looking greatsword! The one Cailan had when we first met. The combination is: First statue, last statue, middle statute. 8:14:49 GREAT HALL ABOMINATION BOSS Not a difficult boss, unless you want to save the three Tranquils. I used Mana Clash but the thing resisted it. So we did this the hard way. Fire Ball the group to knock everyone down. The boss can deal some pretty good damage on Morrigan, but we have more than enough Heal at our disposal. Wynne can paralyze it with her Glyph, and you can also Petrify it if you need to. Let Alistair kill the minions while you and the mages keep the boss busy. The Abomination turns the tranquils who stand there into Shades, so you can just let it happen to gain more xp. If you want to save them make Alistair focus on the boss. After it's dead, get the gift for Alistair from its corpse. Also, at 8:16:22, you can see me touching the last statue we need to interact with to get Yusaris. 8:16:47 OBTAINING THE SWORD AND FIGHTING THE RAGE DEMON BOSS Touch the basement door and the boss will appear. It has the usual Rage Demon spells: Fire Ball, Flame Blast, Fire Aura, and Fire Bolt. Pretty weak overall. Especially with Wynne's paralyzing Glyph. I took more damage from the friendly mages than from the raging boss! What the hell Petra? That is not how you throw a Fire Ball! The key is to NOT hit the allies! And this is the girl we left here with the kids? 8:17:34 ALISTAIR GETS A SKILL I decided to spend Alistair's unspent skill point. Survival is fine. Little nature resistance. Why not? 8:17:55 DOOR NUMBER As soon as you open it, the Templars will immediately cast Holy Smite on you, so Force Field time! Alistair can take them down, with Wynne healing him. You can help, one you get out of the Force Field. Behind these three doors we will collect the papers for the Five Pages, Four Mages. 8:18:46 THE DOOR TO HELL For a mage anyway. Five Templars, one Elite Desire Demon. Force Filed yourself immediately. The Templars, just like before, will Holy Smite the hell out of you as soon as you touch the door. You can't take it, you will die, since there are five of them. Wynne and Morrigan got pretty bruised up, and they only received the aoe! Fortunately, the Templars will Cleanse the Force Filed, so you will be back in business pretty fast. That knock down mid heal was unexpected though, Morrigan almost fell again. She used her Life Drain to leech some of it back, and I Group Healed everyone. Mana Clash on the demon and then start taking down the templars one by one. Alistair will do most of the work, templars have pretty good magic resistance, they will resist most of your spells. Still, try to Petrify them, knock them down with Stone Fist etc. Make it easier for our future king. There is a gift for Zevran with one of the templars, pick it up. 8:20:41 BEWITCHED TEMPLAR I decided to get rid of them. Good fight, good xp, good rewards. The Templar will Holy Smite so Force Field him. One guy with Holy Smite does not warrant a Force Field on us, so just use the ISOLATION tactic. The demon gets Mana Clash and Stone Fist. The corpses are not a big deal, especially since we isolted the Elite templar. If he gets out, stun him and Petrify him to leave your mages alone. The cabinet has a gift for Oghren, and the templar has the templar armor. 8:22:45 SUMMONING SCIENCES Back to a quest I almost forgot. We can complete it even after the Broken Circle, but we are already here, right? First summon: Spirit Nug. Summoning Font + Tome of Spirit Personages. Touch the first red smoke. Second summon: Spirit guy. Summoning Font + Rodercoms Uncommon Calling + Magus Gorvish. Touch the second red smoke. Third summon: Bereskarn. Summoning Font + Elvorn's Grande Bestiary + Common Table Carving Spot + Spiritorum Etherialis + Magus Gorvish + Novice Philactery. Touch the third red smoke. We kill the bear and get the Charged Mitts. Gloves for Lightning users. 8:24:43 MORRIGAN LEVEL 13 Everything goes on Magic. We pick Glyph of Paralysis for her, so she can also paralyze enemies. She does not have enough tactic slots yet, to use it though. 8:25:23 THE DOOR OF CERTAIN DEATH At least if you don't do it the way I do here. First, DON'T OPEN THE DOOR! Zoom out and blast the Blood Mage with Mana Clash. Then cast a Fire Ball on the group of templars. Your mage will automatically open the door as he casts the ball. Yes, we can eat some Holy Smite in the process, that is fine, because they will be knocked down. After the templars are knocked down and we get out of the stun, try to group them together at the door and give them some fire. As always with templars, we need to focus on getting hit too much, since they drain our mana. Petrify and Mind Blast can keep them at bay until we finish them off. 8:26:21 EVERYONE'S FAVORITE DEMON IN THE GAME Sloth. We are going to sleep. We have done enough. It's time to rest.
